I came into town visiting from North Carolina and heard nothing but good things about this place as it’s new and just opened. However, my experience was not of the ones I heard about. So after a morning run I decided to try it out with my mother and girlfriend. The diner is open from 6am-12pm. We showed up around 1020 am and already the amount of people waiting was sizable. Which makes sense due to us being newly opened. At first the atmosphere seems friendly but as time passes you start to see how it’s not. As the amount of people grew in waiting, the place was no longer able to accommodate as patrons who had long finished eating stayed about and at no point were friendly urged to accommodate new customers. We were given menus while waiting to help facilitate a faster ordering ordering process so when you’re seated you can just order and get the ball rolling. ( this will play a part later ) Jax , the owner is also the cook and seeing as he’s an older gentleman, he is not the fastest moving cook and his speed back there does not help any. After about an hour of waiting some parties got up and we were promptly seated. Once seated we got our drinks and started the ordering process. Once I was asked, I stated I wanted the sampler ( 2 eggs to order, 2 pancakes, and 2 pieces of bacon) but I would like to substitute out the pancakes for French toast. Upon which I was told they couldn’t substitute anything on the menu as the owner Jax didn’t allow it. ( Great business practice. ) So as of this point after waiting an hour, I also can’t even order what I want to order. At this point I have already determined that they can’t accommodate customers nor can they accommodate any menu changes. Going back to the quote, it’s should honestly read “ COOKS IN SIGHT, GOTTA BE RIGHT, JUST CANT BE CHANGED” The diner does have a retro feel minus the giant window-panned double door that stares directly into ACES HARDWARE. So if you like a 50s feel with a view of handymen shopping beside you as you eat, this is the perfect diner for you! Now moving onto receiving the food. It was about another 30 or so minutes before we actually received the food. Due to the speed the cooks move. Not horrible, but not fast nonetheless. My mom and girlfriend both ordered scrambled eggs with cheese ( the cheese is an extra .60 cents ) but the cheese is literally just a slice of cheese melted on top. Toast was burnt. Gravy was overcooked. The potatoes were decent. Overall the experience did not meet the expectations I had heard of. Maybe it’s isolated but due to the disgusted look on most of the customers faces as they left , I’d bet I speak for most of them. Servers gave amazing service, however you can tell the owner/ cook severely limits on how accommodative they can be. So much in fact that people were already being turned around 1.5 hours before closing.
On a positive note, if you need a hammer after you eat, Aces is right there!
Not a diner I will be visiting again anytime soon until it’s more accommodative, or ownership changes out to accommodate. Solid...
Read moreThey did a great job at designing this place. The staff was friendly. However i will not go back. We waited 40 minutes to get a simple breakfast. I got poached eggs and they were cold, the bread was burnt. The wait for breakfast was ridiculous. If the owner is so experienced he needs to step up his game and have quicker service! Its not like we were waiting for steaks! I know they were busy, however if you compare Jax's to Ruthies in Ligioner...... that place can be packed and you never wait long for your food and its always hot. I rather drive to Ligioner. Sorry for negative review, just not a good...
Read moreCute, clean, courteous! My husband and I had a friend visit from out of town so we decided to check out this diner for breakfast. Best idea!! The 50s coca cola aestetic is so well done. The atomsphere is very clean and inviting. The staff are incredibly friendly. We ordered a veggie omelet with cheese, short stack pancakes, gravy and biscuits with potatoes... a.m.a.z.i.ng. The portion sizes are very fair for the cost. I can't wait to go back to try more items...
