The Cakery — Restaurant in Lubbock

I’m not sure where to begin... I used The Cakery for my wedding this past weekend. We had around 120 guests and decided to serve cupcakes and have a small two tier cake for ourselves. After speaking with numerous bakeries in town, I felt that The Cakery had some of the most delicious flavors and decent prices. I was also sold on the fact that the cupcakes and cake would be delivered and set up for us - on your wedding weekend the less you have to do the better, right? Unfortunately after the contract was signed and the money was paid I found it difficult to get ahold of the owner. I understand she is very busy, however when all you’re asking is confirmation of cake flavors I wouldn’t think it would take several days to respond. Then to my dismay, I learned that the baker arrived to my venue in a rush and made it clear that she had other places to be. While I myself did not witness this, both of my parents as well as one of the venue directors commented on it and how unprofessional the interaction was. To me it’s just uncalled for. When it’s your only child’s wedding day - someone rushing in and making it clear that YOU, the current PAYING customer, are not a priority is a big problem.

Then to top it off she didn’t leave any boxes for leftover cupcakes or a box for our top tier that was to be used as an anniversary cake. To me that was truly one of the worst things. My poor parents had to shove cupcakes in cardboard boxes, decor storage bins, and then pray that they would get smashed in the travel home (which they definitely did). So now our anniversary cake is smashed in, the cupcakes are smashed in, and I’m left feeling like I wasted money. Sure the cake tastes great, but what does any of it matter if the customer service isn’t there? I mean really ... not leaving a box for at least the anniversary cake is just flat out rude and inconsiderate.

All in all if you just want a quick cupcake this is your place, but I personally would not recommend The Cakery for anyone’s...

I ordered two birthday cakes for Nov 10th, one cake was a two layer cake, chocolate and amaretto. The amaretto flavor was vanilla, so I called on Saturday the 11th to inform them of the wrong flavor, I also told them they had done this last year as well. The girl stated they probably didn't put enough amaretto flavor in the cake, and stated they would definitely do something about it, but the owner was out, and would get back to me on Tuesday. Well I never got a call..all week. So I called on Friday, stated I never received a return call from the owner, the girl said, is this about the amaretto? I said yes, she then said, well the owner stepped out, and I will have her call you back as soon as she gets in... no call. So I call back Saturday at about 2:45, told the girl I never received call from the owner, she then says " I'm the owner, we've been busy, as if to disregard my concern, she blamed the chocolate over powering the amaretto, so I explained it happened last year with just one flavor.. she again had an excuse stating she uses amaretto liquor, so it's not very strong. Then went on to say her Vanilla cake doesn't taste like vanilla, it tastes like pound cake.. so with all that being said, she did nothing for their lack of ability to make an amaretto cake taste like amaretto. I remained calm and simply said, ok, I'll be sure to never order from you guys again.. and she replied with ok, thank you. That shows her lack of professionalism, and care for...

I will review this place with all due respect. The ladies that work at this establishment are very friendly and helpful. This is the first time I've ever ordered a cake for a personal event, so I didn't do my homework. I didn't even think to get to know the place and actually taste any of their items before ordering a whole cake, whether they were samples or items purchased from their display case. I ordered a cake which from the jump was very presentable, but with regard to the taste, I was not very satisfied. The cake was very heavy and clumped together. I expected a light, fluffy texture like every good cake I've ever tasted. The icing was way too sweet and I also asked for strawberry cream filling between the layers and unfourtunately only got regular icing between the layers. Over all I did not like the taste of the cake. I paid $67 for something I went into completely blind and in my personal opinion do not believe it was worth the money.
