Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in Lufkin

I’ll start with the food. It was good. I expected a little more variety being in a city the size of Lufkin but it was good. One of the reasons I continually choose GC is the pot roast. I didn’t see any here. Maybe that’s a dinner item. I’d have liked to had some bbq chicken too. Another one of my GC favs.

The service was great. The table attendant kept the table cleared and made sure we had plenty to drink. I don’t like that they don’t give a full set of utensils in the little bag. I didn’t quite understand that. One thing I did like was getting my drink on the way in. I haven’t been to another GC that does that.

The restaurant was very clean. The dishes I picked up were clean. One thing that was a little off putting was the condition of the dining room. I noticed torn seats and seats with the cover coming off. The paint on the trim looked amateur at best. It’s due for a remodel bad. It’s not enough to make me want to go elsewhere but my first impression was that it probably wasn’t going to be good. But hey, you can’t judge a book by its cover. If nothing else, the staff deserve a nicer place to work.

Like I said before the table attendant was great, but she wasn’t the only staff I encountered. On the way in a staff member was also entering the store and held the door for me and my wife. He made his way to the kitchen so I’m assuming he was kitchen staff. Also, the grill attendant was fast and very professional. He served me with a smile. I appreciated that.

I went to Golden Corral late January I think it was w/ a friend, I hadn't been in 15 or so years and I've had weight loss surgery since then, had it for 10 years so I decided to try Golden Corral again. Now I can't say that any of the food was BAD, it all seemed great and freshly prepared, although I didn't care for their recipe on the deviled eggs, but if you have weight loss surgery or just don't eat a lot and normally take a lot home don't waste nearly $20 on a buffet, it's NOT worth it. I had been joking w/ my friend because my dad's 55th birthday had just passed and I told him "Hey I think at some places you qualify for the senior discount" so as we walk in I see something about senior discount 60+ and I'm like "oh no there's is 60, he's not there yet!" to my friend about the senior discount to which the worker tells me the senior discount is the only one they'll honor so no military or anything, and that that "Senior Discount" was a whopping 50 cents of that $19.99 buffet, whoa GC calm tf down w/ your generosity. I get that $20 for ALL you can eat sounds great to a person who can eat a normal or large amount of food, but considering I didn't eat much, it just wasn't enough to justify the price w/ nothing to take home. I spend the same $20 at a different restaurant, I'll leave w/ something to take home. Which at least makes it worth it. I should've gotten mine to go, filled it up, and just worked on it on...

I'm sorry I love Golden Corral I really do but this franchise on 1st in Lufkin is TERRIBLE there food has a soap taste to it when I confronted they said oh its because we over cook it because people say its under cooked. Then accuse me of being stupid?! Um I'm sorry but when I have the sudden urge to vomit or blow very painful diarrhea from eating the food from there sorry I'm not an idiot. The only good thing was the damn soda! Oh and to charge me 30$$$$ when it wasn't even the dinner time yet it was only 11am and their website Goldrencorral said what prices on what days. I'm sorry but not only over fricking charging me and giving me food poisoning or even worse. I'm sorry I'm done with this place I'd rather go to Hitbachi Grill, Cici's for buffets. Do yourself a favor do not go to this golden corral on South 1st in Lufkin Texas from across walmart. If you can go to Tyler or Long view heck even Houston. This place...
