Updated review: Standpipe has gone through many changes and unfortunately, not for the better. All the charm that once set it apart has been stripped away, leaving it feeling like just another East Texas coffee shop.
The shop used to feel welcoming and inclusive, with a diverse staff and a unique atmosphere that reflected them. Now, with most (if not all) of the staff replaced, it feels far less open and representative.
On top of that, the small but meaningful details that made this place special are gone. They discontinued the Greek Salad and now serve bland sandwiches you could find at the bread shop down the street. And instead of the eclectic, alternative indie music that gave the shop its character, they now play country or soft rock that feels generic and boring.
The service has gone down as well. I ordered something and was confused about the price and how it was rung up, and the barista was so rude about it. She went straight to being rude instead of listening and understanding what I was asking.
It’s disheartening to watch a spot that once felt so unique and community-driven lose its warmth and individuality. I truly hope the new owners consider bringing back some of the spirit that made this coffee shop stand out in the first place.
Original 5* review: Standpipe is my go to for coffee in Lufkin. It's a nice place to sit and visit. The chocolate chip cookie and scones are my favorite treats. I eat the greek salad with chicken more often than I'd like to admit (this is only on weekdays). The workers are very friendly and provide...
Read moreI am sharing my experience visiting this lovely coffee shop in downtown Lufkin. I stopped by here yesterday on my way back to STL from the Lake Livingston area. The spacious interior of the coffee shop is beautifully designed, with ample tables and seats available for everyone to chat, catch up on work, or relax. The atmosphere of the place is so inviting that it feels like a perfect spot to hang out and unwind. I recommend this coffee shop to anyone looking for a cozy and comfortable spot to grab a coffee or spend quality time with friends or colleagues.
I ordered a large iced criminal to go with three pastries, including scones and kolaches. They were delicious!
The service was fast, and the staff was super friendly. I enjoyed my pit stop here! I recommend this place to those who live in Lufkin or those who are stopping...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. The Frappe (called "Blended here) is excellent. The Blended had a very strong coffee taste, even though it has ice and milk. I have had sooo many that I've had to take back for an extra shot or two to make it taste like a coffee drink, but NOT here. I hesitantly ordered a chocolate chip cookie and ended up eating two. The cookies had plenty of chocolate chips, but what sold me was the taste and texture of the dough. The outside had a slight crunchiness and a nice soft middle. The barista did ask if I wanted them heated up, but if chef mike (microwave) touched it, it would totally ruin the texture. I told her (the barista) that it was a shame they don't have the same heating setup that Starbucks has. Standpipe gives Starbucks a good run for their money. Go and savor the...
