Look I had to go from a four star to a two-star for a couple of reasons. I hate having to do this because I've ate at this place and Captain D's in general for over 20 years. This place needs a serious update externally, internally, and an overhaul on workforce. Two times in a row now has my fish been cold and having an odd texture. The taste isn't quite the same either as just a couple of months or so ago. It's more bitter with a sour taste now and I don't know why. The texture is resembling chicken more than anything now. Maybe I've had some bad batches which is possible but that's also an issue because what are they doing for it to be like this? I recently went and got it before closing and they gave me fries and coleslaw instead of the extra hush puppies and breadsticks. They told me to keep the fries and coleslaw that I'll have a full meal plus the breadsticks they'll give me but the thing is is I didn't want fries or coleslaw. I would not be complaining about that if I would have still gotten my hush puppies but I did not get them at all. So instead of taking a few minutes to cook more they just did it that way. I don't know what's going on but I know the manager at this time if that's what he is is not a very nice person nor is he willing to work with you on anything. I understand having a corporate mind to try to get further in the business but the reality is it's costing customers. They need to look at this place and see what's going on. Like I said I've been going here for a very long time and have seen a lot of ups and downs but this is definitely the worst downs I've dealt with. I still have a sour bitter taste in my mouth after eating the fish let's hope I don't get sick. Edit sep. 19th 2025; the last time I ate it awhile ago, nothing changed BUT this isn't about that. This is an edit for the two reviews I read dealing with the speed of service in line and the styrofoam issue. 1. The place isn't a traditional fast food place. They cook the food to order and don't usually hold food like McDonald's, be happy for that. People want fresh food but not the wait that comes with it. They tend to only have 2-3 people working, which is ridiculous sometimes, but that late I get it. How many people are actually coming to this place and hour and a half before close? 2. The styrofoam issue is weird imo. If you read the law it states that the business has to be a larger business with more than so many places in the state for it to apply. They have like 2 captain D's in VA lol. That's why small restaurants still use styrofoam, because it doesn't apply to them. Captain D's isn't small but not big anymore either. People have weird complaints and things like drown out actual issues like mine with food quality and poor overall service, which hasn't changed. PLEASE HIRE MORE PEOPLE OR SOME NEW...
Read moreAbout a month ago, I ordered a family meal with fish, corn, and broccoli from Captain D's in Timberlake, VA. I was visiting my hometown from another state and was excited to introduce Captain D's to my husband, especially because I prefer its flavor over Long John Silver's. We drove 30 minutes out of the way from my family's home to get the meal.
Upon arriving at my family's house, we realized that the broccoli was missing from our order, and there was no receipt in the bag. I tried calling the restaurant several times, but the phone line was consistently busy, so I couldn't reach anyone.
Since I was attending church in the area the next day, I decided to visit the restaurant after church to address the issue. The cashier at the front, a young lady, asked for the receipt, and I explained that it wasn't in the bag. My husband had paid for the order using Apple Pay, so I showed her the transaction on his phone. She asked me to step aside while she spoke with the manager.
The manager, a heavier dark-skinned lady with long locs dyed red at the ends, told the cashier to inform me that they wouldn't help with my concern, even though she never came out to speak with me directly. I then requested corporate information because of their rudeness, and the cashier told me to "Google it" before walking away abruptly.
Despite their rudeness, I remained polite and respectful throughout the interaction. I paid for something that I never received, which by law, is considered stealing. According to consumer protection laws, charging for a product or service that is not delivered constitutes theft, as it involves taking money without providing the agreed-upon goods.
This experience was highly disappointing, especially considering I had recommended Captain D's to my family. The lack of customer service and the dismissive attitude of the staff left a very negative impression. I hope the management addresses these issues to improve the customer experience...
Read moreI called in an order, At 5:30 I told her that I would be there by six I got there at 6:10 they didn’t have to order right I had ordered two dinners, 4 kids meal, And three orders of lobster Rolls. They didn’t get the lobster rolls on the order, the order was bagged up on the counter all but the lobster rolls so I asked them for the lobster rolls and that lady in the back rolled her eyes and ignored the order for the lobster rolls. I had three employees tell her I was waiting on lobster rolls orders. As I was there I am seeing drive-through orders being returned the stuff left out of their bags I’m seeing customers complaint the place was extremely nasty the floor was full of nasty stuff as the employees all stood around drinking drinks take it off mask Scratching in there head and twirling their hair on the front counter. It was very nasty. There was one customer in there eating and she noted everything that I was seeing and how long I waited and she came up to say something She said if I didn’t, she was going to. I waited till 6:45 and ask them when the lobster rolls would be ready and they told me it would be another 10 to 15 minutes, I’ve been there since 10 after six it is now almost 7pm So I got a refund on all my money Because the Rest of the food was still sitting on the counter getting very cold and the drinks getting very water down. We used to love this place in Lynchburg But it’s the worst I’ve ever seen it I’m so sorry it’s gone. Some big changes need to happen to get this place back the way it was. That was a $50.00 order and...
