THIS IS A TRUE ITALIAN RESTAURANT!!! If you want a real review then you might want to read this...
My husband and i love to travel and we have ended up in lynchburg because his parents are here. We went to Italy plenty of times to know what real Italian food is. Monte Carlo Restaurant is a true Italian restaurant and the owners are true Italians. I got to meet their whole family. The husband is the chef and his wife would handle the cash while his son made our pizza and the daughter was our waitress. I don't see a family like that anymore. A family that actually helps out each other, it is so rare to see that especially here in lynchburg.
The food is true and authentic Italian. With the entrees you get soup salad and garlic bread, then your dinner with a side of spaghetti or broccoli. They make their own sauce and pizza dow and dressings for their salads and make much much more. I asked many questions and was shocked at how much the family does for this restaurant, and it shows all that they do because the food tasted better than what I had in Italy.
They have an amazing GIANT pizza that my husband and i got once. It was as big as the table! We had so much left overs and it was just as delicious the next day. I especially love their homemade terremisu and cannoli! I wish i could eat those everyday!
I've noticed that people here in lynchburg are nothing like people who have good taste. Everyone here is too cheap. Monte Carlo has pizza and dinners for such cheap prises yet i notice that people comment and say how their food is so expensive. Seriously?
Monte Carlo should in New York or in a place that has people who can actually understand real food, not like those other italian places that the owners aren't even italian. How can someone own an Italian restaurant and have never gone to Italy? I can not wait to move out of here because people here have no idea what real food is. I wish Monte Carlo could be somewhere where people actually know what a real Italian restaurant is like.
If you want a real Italian place to eat with real Italian food and a real Italian family, go to Monte Carlo. You won't be...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant twice, and I had good experiences with both, but I believe that my first pasta was not as good as the second time I went. All to say, I would come here again only for the tomato based seafood pastas and their salad.
The first time I went, I was with a big group and we all had our own dishes picked out. I went for the fat boy dish because it seemed that many of their ingredients went into this dish and I could enjoy the different meats and vegetables. The dish was okay but it did not suit my palette.
Second time I came however, I had their penne pescatore with linguini (since I am a big linguini fan, albeit it can get more messy than penne) It was one of the better pastas I have had in many years. I believe the tomato sauce's acidity and sweetness did well balancing the taste of seafood. I also had the Caesar salad and I believe the dressing was also one of the better dressings I have had.
Service and atmosphere-wise, I thought they are top-notch, and I also really enjoyed how classy the interior is. A setup seems like one of those banquet or reception hall seating so that many people could be...
Read moreI have been coming here for years to get mainly pizza, but just about anything is delicious. Especially their salads! The wait staff are very nice and attentive, they truly make your visit exceptional. I will say, years (3-4) they had employee who REALLY knew how to make a pizza and it was the best I've had, then they fired him and the owner started making and saw a noticeable decline. Why/how? He stopped using as much $ on each pizza. The cheese was almost non-existent even with extra cheese. Those were the dark times and I stopped going there for about a year (why deal with that when little Cesar's is $5 cheaper and essentially was the same thing at that point) but they got their act together and are once again making delicious pizza and overall food (2019-2021)
UPDATE 2022: The owner has gone back to using very little cheese, I'm sure in an attempt to keep price the same and maintain profit. But when I pay for extra cheese, I expect my pizza to ATLEAST be covered. Photo is what extra cheese looks like. I will concede that yes, if it wasn't bunched up it MAY atlwast cover the pizza......
