They carry these little four ounce jars of peanut butter at this market and when I was in a pinch one evening and didn't want to wait in line at the nearby drug store or supermarket up the street, I bought it there instead. I can't recall the brand name, but it is the MOST amazing peanut butter ever. The only thing I could see on the label that is different than Jiff, Justin's or Skippy Peanut Butter is that this peanut butter was made in India. Had an expiration date on it and so I thought, "WHY NOT?". It was around two dollars. Hands down it was the most AMAZING peanut butter ever. They also sell 2% from Costco for cheaper than what I pay for milk up at QFC. If you don't mind the huge jug with the huge spout (Kirkland brand) you can save about 75 cents each time you buy your milk if you get it here. Interesting selection of wines and beers, too. I don't smoke, but if you bring a friend who does, keep in mind that their cigarette prices are definitely a bit on the high side. That's my friends and family's only complaint, but hey, they're ALWAYS fresh, which to some degree, at least makes it worth it. I like this little grocery. Very clean inside, open nearly 24 hours a day, decent prices and everything is always fresh. They even sell bandannas, WI-FI chargers and sunglasses! Apparently you can get Greek deli food here, too, but I've never tried it. We usually go to Kaffe Neo, but one day I will have to try One Stop's deli food because the pictures look delicious! I don't think they make lattes but a latte stand is across the street and they sell a great variety of latte beverages in bottles and cans, at least. VERY convenient when you need...
Read moreidn’t think I would be making a post like this tonight when I stopped for a quick bite. But this is me imploring you to change your plans for a night this week and try this dish and meet this amazing cook. Moments like the one I just had are everything about why I love food, and cooking and why I chose this craft as what I will die doing.
This Beef Kokkinisto is absolutely beautiful all the way around. Rich and bold sauce with amazingly tender chunks of beef, that simply melted in my mouth like some of the best ribeyes Ives had. The Greek salad was a refreshingly light, tangy balance that really set off the whole dish. The menu lists it as “good for two” but I literally couldn’t stop eating.
And my god, you should see the owners face light up as he talks about it. There was pure, almost childlike joy and pride in his face as he told me told me about his process for it from how he chooses his meats, to how his Greek salad dressing is a recipe he has spent years developing, that he makes in house. And honestly it’s one of the best Greek salads I’ve ever tasted. The whole meal is beautifully balanced and enjoyable from start to finish. And he and his wife are extremely pleasant, welcoming people that created a wonderful little atmosphere to enjoy my meal. From the outside, it looks like just another strip mall mini mart, but you know what they...
Read moreI used to really enjoy this place when it was more of a local Greek food spot — their gyros had a great balance of flavors, you could really taste the meat and feta, and it felt like a hidden gem. Unfortunately, it seems like the shop has changed ownership or direction, and it’s now turning into more of a smoke shop.
When I went recently, they didn’t seem to know what a Tyropita was (even though it’s still on the menu), and the new gyros just don’t hit the same. They use chopped tomatoes instead of wedges now, and it gives the whole thing a really acidic flavor that kind of overpowers everything else. Instead of that classic gyro taste, it’s mostly just bread and tomato.
I really hope they find their footing again — it was a great little neighborhood spot — but for now, it’s definitely not what...
