Jimmy John's — Restaurant in Lyon Charter Township

I usually love Jimmy Johns. I usually walk into a welcoming and friendly environment. Most Jimmy John’s stores are usually clean. My order is usually out pretty quick. However, this location is the complete opposite.

I recently moved to the area, so I had never tried this location before. I was tired, I had been at work all day, and I didn’t feel like cooking anything for dinner. Additionally, I knew I had a bunch of college coursework to complete so I decided that I would grab my favorite sandwich from one of my favorite sub shop chains on my way home from work.

From the moment I walked in, I should have honestly just walked out. When I walked in, there were several boys working behind the counter that immediately made it very obvious that I was an inconvenience walking in to them. They didn’t have good attitudes, and you could tell that they definitely didn’t want to be there. The smell was also completely awful in there - completely unsanitary. When I finally got my sandwich, it was both sloppily made and wrapped with no effort. I will not be returning to this location again. To be honest, I will not even be eating the sandwich because of the attitude and sanitary conditions at this establishment - which is honestly such a shame and such a waste. But I can’t risk my health for that.

The attitudes? Honestly, I could understand IF I walked in 10 minutes before closed. But I walked in just under an hour before close. Before I walked in, I saw them all standing behind the counter chit chatting, so I knew I wasn’t disrupting any nightly closing duties in that moment. Tonight was not good. Ordered a regular Turkey Tom and an unwich Turkey Tom. When I walked in and as I was ordering, a girl began cleaning underneath the containers that hold the sandwich condiments (lettuce, onions, mayo, etc). As they were pulled out water dripped on the area where the sandwiches were made. She was scrubbing around in the recessed areas that held the containers. These areas contained some really bad looking water and scale looking stuff. She replaced the containers but did not wipe or clean the water off the sub making area. I stood there watching this and before she could lay the lettuce down in the water I ask her if she could clean that area. She gave me a quick, annoyed glance and without saying a word, grabbed "a" jimmy johns napkin (1) and wiped once across the water. I couldn't believe it; she never said anything and proceeded to lay the lettuce for the unwich in that disgusting water and then laid the bun in it on the second sandwich! I should have ask for my money back but I was stunned. I watched her make her portion of my order and before the sandwich was completely made, disappeared in the back. I was going to ask for my money back but she and the register girl were gone. Just took the sandwiches and left. Wife and I were hungry but the leaves of lettuce used for wrapping the sandwich had brown spots on and the bun was wet. Didn't bother with them after I got home. We were really wanting some Jimmy Johns tonight! Oh well...Crummy service, crummy sandwiches, unsanitary conditions! I have been there a few times before and it was good but tonight was weird...

I called the store today to make a simple order once again they can’t get it right I just don’t understand as easy as it is to make a sandwich why they can’t understand this is not the first time this is a reoccurring issue I try to keep my business local especially with the way things are but I was told today if I don’t like their sandwiches I don’t have to come back so their wish is my command we will not be back the girl on the phone when I asked her her name kept saying um um um um so I finally asked her are you trying to think of a name to give me and she said no my name is Lisa which I highly doubt I asked her for the corporate number and she told me they don’t have one I asked to talk to a store manager and she said everybody that was working there is a store manager which is very hard for me to believe so all I have to say is Jimmy John’s you better do some heavy work in the store because I’m reading your reviews and it looks like you’re on your way to go under I will not be back and believe me I will tell everybody I come across that a deal and south Lyon Jimmy John’s good luck .
