We have been to this restaurant several times. We love the Lemon grass beef. The restaurant usually makes it super delicious, with the exception of this visit in November 2013. I was there with my mother and sister during a week day for lunch. It was not busy. Our first complaint is that the server was particularly slow. We were a bit irritated because there was a table next to us that came after we had been seated for a while. They got their food before us. I overheard someone from the other table complain about something regarding their meal and the waiter apologized and said he would remove it from their bill. Long after eating our appetizer we still had not received our main course. When we asked our server, he went to check. It appeared as if he forgot or did not order it to begin with. When it arrived and we were eating it, all three of us noticed that it did not taste as good as we remember it to taste. We choose this dish every time we come to eat at Thipi Thai. When we finally got the attention of our waiter, we mentioned this to him. He said "it must of not been so bad since you ate most of it". We were shocked. He never offered an apology for the late service, which we think he forgot to order it and had them quickly make up this so called version of the Lemon grass beef. Nor did he ever offer to remove this dish off our bill. There was also a discrepancy in the check for one of the dishes that we called him on it. The other dish was from the lunch menu and he charged us for the dinner menu. I brought this to his attention and he corrected it reluctantly and made the corrections by hand. When I handed him my credit card and noticed he charged for the regular price and did not correct the discrepancy, I took it off his tip. We were so disappointed with this experience.

Although we have been going for many years, even when it was at the other location in downtown La Grange before they moved to Calendar St. We do not plan on returning. It's a shame because I used to recommend this restaurant prior to...

The food in this place is amazing, very salty but an absolute Delight. The service however is horrible it is the worst service I've ever received. It was not busy it was a warm summer day had to wait for the waiter who actually was standing at the podium when we walked in and seated us...yes we still had to wait for him to take order. No offering or suggesting anything no assistance in trying to help us decide, waited a very very long time just for a glass of wine, again no suggesting and this was our first time here. when you came to take our order didn't even suggest or asked if we wanted an appetizer but I did order an appetizer again it comes out of the kitchen amazing. the waiter brought my food and not my salad that I had ordered had to find another person to get that when I wanted another cocktail I had to find another person to get that when I wanted my check I had to wave somebody else down I ended up tipping out a different person that I actually think was a busboy because he did more than our waiter. To get our check and a to,-go bag, again waiting on this other person who actually forgot.. I had to ask again with the waiter showing up eventually stating they where busy. Mr, I am sitting right here!!!not!! The larger portion of the place was lights off and closed. There where 3 waiters and this support person or waiter, No bartender, and the restaurant was less than half full, in the half that was open when we ordered, maybe half full when we left. Our waiter was chatting up the other staff, not over busy. More on the plus, they use clean wipes every time when washing the tables after guests, the decor is nice as well as outside seating. Check out the carving!!! The area is such a nice place to spend time.... And despite this one server... I would drive the hour one way again BECAUSE, and ONLY because the area and...

Normally we love this place. Food is deliciou,s offerings are unique etc.

This lunch was a disaster!

Background: I called ahead and gave fair warning that i had extrnsive special health needs, and to be patient. She agreed. Our waitress miscommunicated to tbe chef and placed an order I had not agreed to, she blamed me instead. I asked for the order to change. she got the manager / owner (?) to come out and who then misunderstood what i said I wanted too! : there were no vegetables served. Again more miscommunication. Waitress even wrote down at one pt what i wanted and still they got it wrong. Then the waitress started to be Unfriendly, for the rest of the meal. No eye contact, no smile, etc. Then the head chef came out, wrote down my request, bless him, and he then said, "we dont do side dishes of veges, forr this im going to [have to] charge you 14 or 15$." By this time i just wanted to eat and leave. And i agreed to the price with great resistance. What arrived was what was agreed upon. At no time was their an apology offered. I was gentle and friendly throughout. Thanking them at each stage of work No good faith offering of compensation was ever offered.. We spent $70 + I left a very small tip. The lunch with my husband was a nightmare, unacceptable. Most restaurants will offer some "olive branch."

Lesson learned for me is to personally write down exactly what i needed and give it to them upfront.

In the middle of the meal We prayed about the experience. I did not want to lose it and be inappropriate.

In the end everyone is human. Mistakes made, oh well.

What I wanted was to be treated Respectfully. And to be offered Something, for the whole...

My husband and I visited Thipi Thai for the first time, for a Saturday lunch. We were seated right away, and service was friendly and quick. It was not very busy at the time we visited. I had the Thipi Noodles, which is pretty much a brothy garlic sauce with beef, broccoli, carrots, pineapple, and wide noodles that are fried crisp. I wish it would have come with a little white rice to (1) make it a little more filling and (2) absorb excess sauce. I apparently have a hole in my lip because I ended up with spots of sauce on my shirt, which left unsightly little oily stains. Having a spoon, rather than a fork, might have helped with that a little… I should have thought to ask. My husband had the Spicy Basil with chicken, and has chilis, vegetables and Thai basil in a spicy garlic sauce. It was very good. We ultimately enjoyed our lunch at Thipi Thai, and would love to come back, if we are back in the LaGrange area.

Understand that the restaurant may be short staffed, but my boyfriend and I waited over 15 minutes before anyone greeted us at our table or asked us if we wanted anything to drink. There were only 3 other tables around us and 3 servers/staff walking around so it seemed a bit unusual that no one came over to us. Before a sever finally even came to take our drink order, she cleaned off a whole table behind us first. It took about another 15 minutes to get our waters after that and another 20 to finally get our food. However, our meals were absolutely delicious. Recommend carry out or delivery but service was not great, and I am usually very understanding with places being short staffed but to have staff walking around you and not even saying that they can be with us shortly is terrible.

Loved it, will come back again to try more items on the menu! Edit: Tried it again on 5/11/19, very disappointed. Have tried 8 different dishes so far and have to say the majority of them were overseasoned. Maybe the majority of white folk just like it that way, and the restaurant is trying to appeal to its clients. However, the cook needs to learn how to make rice. The rice I got was mushy and soggy. It's inexcusable, embarrassing. The rice was more like congee/oatmeal than steamed rice. Rice is one of the most basic and important ingredients in Asian cooking and if you can't get something so simple right, that casts a shadow on everything else that comes out of the kitchen. I recommend investing in a quality rice cooker.
