Love, love, love this place. It's in a hole-in-the-wall venue and locating parking can be a hassle at times. Despite those minor shortcoming, this is my absolute favorite taqueria in Madison. I’ve been here at least a dozen times and I’ve never had a disappointing meal. El Rancho offers a variety of meats (shredded beef, steak, pulled pork, shredded chicken, ground beef and chorizo) that can be assembled as tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas or nachos. My favorite is the pulled pork – it is always succulent and fork tender, perfected seasoned and brimming with flavor. The preparation of your meal is done Chipotle-style, you indicated the form (burrito, taco, etc) and the meat and then go work down the counter indicating which condiments you’d like. I higher encourage you to try the spicy, pickled onions as a condiment– they add crunch and heat to your meal without any bitterness. The homemade salsas, especially the verde, are also superb. Serving sizes are generous – you’ve been forewarned!
If you decide to eat, you should know seating options are limited (only six tables). The knotty pine paneling is insanely out of character with the style of the food, but you really don’t notice because you’re stuffing your face. There is a loyalty card that provides a free entrée after ten punches. The staff, especially Jose the owner of El Rancho, as friendly and efficient. Despite the rustic nature of the venue, there is free wi-fi – you’ll just have to ask for the password.
Forget about Chipotle and head over to El Rancho if you are looking for full-flavored...

Read moreI went online to order and found a burrito bowl. I'm low carb so I thought it would be perfect. There was no description, it just asked me for meat, cheese, and salsa info. I figured it was at least served on lettuce or something and wasnt just those 3 ingredients. Well....I was wrong. I ordered it through Eat Street delivery. My building is less than a mile away but I didn't have enough time to drive. Well my delivery driver took almost an hour to get me the food. So not only was my food cold... But it was just some ingredients slopped in a styrofoam container. I ordered it with cheese sauce which was just soup by the time it got to me. I gave 2 stars because the taste was good (the pico saved it) and it might have been better in the restaurant hot and fresh but you really need to work on your Eat Street expectations. I'm sending their customer service a message as well. I paid $17 for cold wet slop....
