Now me personally, the food is okay, not seasoned very well, but not bad either. Service is pretty good as well. The young ladies usually working the front are pretty good at chatting with their guests.
What I disliked is what I witnessed happening to the young women providing that service.
There are a few people I see working the front, delivering plates, cleaning tables, the works. Specifically a couple of young women. There is always this one or sometimes two people who literally do nothing the entire time and come speaking to these two women as if they do nothing. Apparently, he is a manager.
While he sits on his laurels or walks about and does nothing, those young women were working. He treats them like they do absolutely nothing and talks to them so condescendingly that even I get annoyed listening to him. Makes my food taste bad to know that this is how they treat their employees. And that's also including the conservative use of seasoning on the ribs.
I'm a college student, business management major and I know bad management when I see it. Oftentimes, people who are working get called from what they are doing to go do something else, and get talked down upon by the manager when they don't do the task they were initially doing. It's distasteful to watch, especially when said managers walk directly by an employee who isn't doing anything.
And the worst thing I've witnessed was a woman scratching her head and immediately touching her food. Keep in mind, she was a blonde complaining that there was blonde hair in her food, raised a fuss about it and all. None of the kitchen staff were blonde. Only blonde person, from what I saw was at the register and she didn't even touch the food.
The manager not only gave this woman a new plate but issued her a refund. I'm like why would you do both? Won't you run out of money with practices like that? Overheard a couple of employees talking about how someone over them complains about costs and it reminds me so much of how it is just customary to give free food with a refund, thereby losing double the money you were supposed to gain. Then reprimanded the employee for it.
Food is okay, but the atmosphere that punishes hard workers, rewarding those who barely work, and giving out freebies is just not it for me. I say this not as a customer, but as a business student. Maybe there is something I don't understand behind the scenes, but do not make your favoritism public, as people notice. Just my advice to the owner...
Read moreI'm originally from Birmingham, so I was very excited to hear Full Moon was opening a location here, having had previous good experiences with Alabama locations. The Jackson area has a serious lack of good BBQ restaurants, which seems odd for a southern state. Anyway, I waited to visit until well after the initial couple months' growing pains were over. This was my third time trying this location. Like many local places, you need to get there before 11:30 AM if you want to avoid the lunch rush. The menu is extensive, and at this location, the way the ceiling soffit is designed makes it difficult to see the full menu boards until you're standing right in front of the register. I recommend taking a peek at their online menu before heading to the restaurant or while standing in line so that you don't get point-of-sale anxiety if you can't find what you want in time! In all seriousness though, the food has been decent and the serving sizes generous. I think they are still working out the kinks, but they will get in a groove. I do agree with others that the pricing is pretty sporty. Regarding the folks who have posted negative reviews focused on the fact that the pulled pork is more like a minced or shredded consistency, that's true, but my opinion is that it doesn't affect the flavor. If you're looking for long, thick strands of pulled pork butt, this is not the place for you. Wanting to try different things, I opted for the Brunswick stew today, and that's why my rating is only 4 stars. It was an overly-sweet (???) vegetable soup with about a tablespoon of shredded meat in it. Definitely not Brunswick stew. The squash casserole was pretty darn good though. One last odd note that hopefully the owner/management will take into consideration: the house music. As I sat in the dining room eating lunch on a week day, I was treated to a strange playlist that at one point played Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" and "The Macarena" back to back. While I can definitely get down to both of those songs, it just wasn't the right time or place. The music definitely doesn't match the restaurant style and makes for an...
Read moreThere's two parts to this review. First, the positives are that the service was excellent. The nice lady working the drive thru had a very pleasant and positive attitude. She gets five stars on her own. The second positive was the collard greens and mac and cheese. The greens were fresh and not frozen or out of a can, and the mac and cheese had the right amount of black pepper in it, which I personally like. Now for the negatives. If you look at my pics, the plate of food doesn't look appealing at all. We ordered the two meat plate with ribs and sausage. We also got an order of onion rings. First, the onion rings had way too much breading for my liking. So much so that they were not crispy at all. Second, the two ribs that we received were end cuts from a slab, which, if you know anything about smoked ribs, you know that the ends tend to be a little overcooked. This is why when I worked in a barbecue restaurant, we were instructed not to give out the end cuts. Third, the sausage link seemed to be undercooked. The casing was tough and hard to break. Lastly, the menu stated that every meal was supposed to come with their famous chow-chow and a toasted bun. We received neither. My apologies for the long review, but I wanted to fully express why I gave only three stars. I'm not suggesting that no one should go here because maybe it was an off night, but for me, I don't think...
