My girlfriend and I tried a Mediterranean spread appetizer, Cauliflower Curry Wrap, a TLT with Avocado (tempeh, lettuce, tomato), kale chips, roasted potatoes, and a slice of vegan cheesecake w/raspberry sauce.
Of those things, the noteworthy ones were the TLT sandwich, the vegan cheesecake, and the roasted potatoes.
The TLT sandwich I can highly recommend. It is very flavorful and balanced, without being too heavy and I was surprised at just how much I liked it. To be honest it stole the show, and I wish I had tried the curry cauliflower wrap first because then I would've liked that one more. (On that note, the cauliflower wrap could be improved with some spicyness, either in the curry itself or via some sauce like Sriracha.)
The vegan cheesecake was almost equally as impressive. Being vegan, it has no dairy and no honey for the graham cracker base. But it is creamy and flavorful, and the raspberry sauce is the perfect complement to the cheesecake (along with the [probably] almond milk cream). Honestly I wouldn't be able to tell it's vegan if it didn't say so on the menu.
Finally the roasted potatoes, which is one of the side options for the meals or à la carte. They were just ok. It's noteworthy because how you make roasted potatoes just ok I have no idea. The kale chips are a much better choice for side!
We waited 6-7 minutes to be seated, with no visible employees in the main room. I actually ended up knocking on the kitchen door to see if I could get someone. After we were seated the service was fine and our waitress was friendly. We sat outside and it was comfortable and cozy!
Overall we are definitely going to go again, skipping an appetizer and getting cocktails next...
Read moreA mouthwatering vegetarian journey of excellence! Traveled to Madison, WI on business trip and needed to find some vegetarian comfort food. I was not disappointed AT ALL! The restaurant is in a trendy area full of shops, bars, and restaurants and parking was easy. The vibe is very earthy-casual. I ordered the Owl Fries--a large portion of fries smothered in smooth cashew cheese, and topped with perfectly cooked crispy seitan, sweet caramelized onions and fresh scallions. It left me full and launched the beginning of a very happy food coma.
But I forgot I also ordered the vegetarian Pesto Alfredo! The portion was huge! It called to me, and it was all I could do to try a few bites before I told myself I needed to take it back to the hotel so I could fully enjoy the experience later after sleeping off the food coma of deliciousness that already started. The few bites I had made me drool for more, but my belly said NO. I'm looking forward to that Alfredo later!
The lemonade I ordered was perfectly sweet and sour, and I also ordered a Tequila Jarrito. Yes, they have cocktails!! Some standard ones for $5, and then some jazzed up ones for $9.
I saw a dessert menu, and there were so many options I couldn't decide. I ended up realizing I need to come back to try the dessert (and all the other amazing culinary creations on the menu!) They have cheesecakes, cookies, and cupcakes!
This place is delicious, laid back, and everything you would hope for in vegetarian comfort food! Even non-vegetarians would love this place! You HAVE to try this place. You will not be disappointed!
They also have outdoor seating!! Hop on over on a sunny day and make your belly and your...
Read moreIt was mine and my fiancées first time at Green Owl, and it was OKAY. When we arrived, we saw two tables open outside and it was a nice day so I asked the host if we could sit there and she said there was a 15-20 minute wait even though nobody was there, and quite honestly the way she was talking to me just came off a bit rude. She was also wearing shorts that were so short the bottom of her butt cheeks were out. Now I'm all about being an individual but you're at work, come on. So as we waited my fiancée was asking the girl behind the bar questions about the food (because she is allergic to dairy and gluten) and the girl was giving her minimal answers and also seemed to have a bit of an attitude, but hey, maybe they were having a bad day. Then when we got seated our waitress just had a very pretentious vibe from the very beginning to the end of our meal. She almost acted as if we were being a nuisance. And then some customers behind us asked her a question about the food and she copped an attitude like those people weren't cool enough to eat there. Get real, THATS WHY PEOPLE EAT THERE, because you have certain food. We also waited over 45 minutes for our food which was a bit much. The food was decent, nothing special but decent. But as soon as we started to leave my fiancée got a terrible stomach ache. So I'm on the fence about this place. Might try it one more time. But if the owner reads this, you should really hire workers that are there to give good customer service. I don't want to pay good money to have some hipsters treat me like their too cool for us. It's a business, not a...
