Grades 6 through 8 the school bus system would drop all first bus students off on Thorton Ave right at what was then Marquette Middle School. Spring and fall of the year I would walk immediately across the street and find a comfortable boulder near the river's edge. Some mornings I'd eat a sandwich on those rocks and crust the ducks. Other mornings I'd laugh with friends or eavesdrop on others. From the time the busses dropped us off, we didn't have more than 30mins before the first bells would ring. I never sat the rocks along the shore on any summer day, though I spent many summer hours at this very section of The Yahara River.
