Clean - warm - friendly - all levels appropriate - I was in Madison for just one evening, and wanted to pop in to a yoga class while in town. A friend who lives on a farm about 45 minutes away met me there so we could practice together before meeting to plan the yoga retreat we’re co-leading. (I say that to say that we are both regular yogis and teachers so we have a high standard for instructors and studios!)
The studio was a warm and welcoming space! The class was very full, probably because of the nice affordable community drop in rate of $10 for that particular class, and/or because regulars know that Jane is a great teacher!
I also loved that they offered a 4:30pm class on a Saturday- those late afternoon Saturday classes can be hard to find.
Anyway, the 75 minute flow was awesome - Jane was a great instructor- encouraging and challenging both, offering modifications for any pose. My friend and I agreed that we loved the class. And I so loved the playlist that I wanted to ask her if she could share it with me afterwards. Because I took a while to shower and change after class, Jane had already left the studio and I was unable to ask her. When I replied to the after-class follow up text that I received as a newcomer, Marit, the studio owner, was kind enough to not only track down the playlist from Jane but even type it up and email it to me.
Thank you, Inner Fire Yoga, for going above and beyond!

Read moreI did not like my experience in this studio. The experience was firstly not physically/mentally challenging enough for me (I have been doing yoga for 10 years and like an active yoga).
The community has a low self esteem - they are easily threatened by younger people and new ideas. Many of their teachers are higher up in age and don't appreciate the ability of a younger person, especially Sandy. Otherwise they cater to people of low self esteem and if you have a lot to add, they undermine you just to make everyone else feel better about themselves, particularly during teacher training. They really undermined my confidence in the time that I practiced with them. It was even noticeable to my yoga peers of many years!
The owner is nice but she is extremely concerned with her business- to the point of misreading her own policy and trying to take more money than she is owed- and that can really undermine the immaterial experience one seeks when one is interested in yoga.
The yoga is extremely watered down, based on my experience. I am sorry if this offends anyone but as a traveler- this yoga is extremely white washed and is seriously lacking in cultural immersion and diversity.
I would not recommend - you can get a better experience online with another studio who is more serious about their...
Read moreI started practicing at Inner Fire East after buying a Groupon deal for one month of unlimited classes. This is a wonderful community of kind and welcoming people who are eager to meet you wherever you are in your own journey and encourage you to stretch a little bit further and sweat a little bit harder. Unfortunately, I can't afford their regular membership prices, but I think it's great that they offer a few community classes at a discounted rate so that their yoga practice can be accessible to someone on a budget. Recently, I made the decision to wean off of a fairly addictive anti-depressant that I was prescribed when I was a teenager and have relied on through most of my 20s. Yoga has helped me be more aware of and adjust to the changes my body is going through and has served as an outlet for the anxieties of every day life that I am now facing medication-free. I would highly recommend this studio to anybody who is even curious about yoga and the impact it could have on their...
