I had a hard time selecting a loaf of bread that would be worthy of the best homegrown slicing tomatoes, homemade avocado-oil mayonnaise, and some excellent Berkshire hog bacon, but the Origin Sourdough Sandwich Loaf kept my attention, and in spite of the HIGH price of $7.50 for the 32-ounce loaf, I bit the bullet and bought. I couldn't have made a better decision! A friend and I ate BLTs with some homemade pappardelle that was coated with a cream sauce and truffles. Opened a bottle of dry white Bordeaux, and it was a simple delight worthy of a fine restaurant. The bread was truly amazing. I haven't had such wonderful bread since my last trip to Germany, where a local bakery occasionally bakes a batch of bread using spelt. I can't wait to try more of the selection, but as a single person, it'll take me a while to go through each load. I think next choice is going to be their Heritage loaf - I'm eager to taste the delight of ancient grains. The sourdough tang was definitely present, so that was a very nice touch and helped it stand out among the various buttery, greasy, and indulgent croissants I'd tried out over the past couple of weeks. I'd say this croissant is a delicacy worth trying, but I don't think I'll be getting it again ($4.50 is a high price point).
The bagels were very, very dense and tough for my taste. Again, they had very good sourdough flavor and tons of everything seasoning, but my jaw was definitely getting the workout of its lifetime every time I tried to eat one. I think the best way to prepare these would be to steam them which, I know, sounds abhorrent (I actually eat all bagels this way, but I digress), but if you don't want to strain your jaw, this is what...
Read moreWe were visiting Madison and came here accidentally thinking we would find cheese bread. Luckily this was a happy mistake. They make the most gorgeous sourdough. Focaccia with Parmesan topping. It was an absolute treat to eat! We also got a couple of their pastries which were delicious. The brownie, not too sweet with a touch of salt was deeply rich and satisfying. The blueberry muffin had such a unique texture to it and was full of blueberries. When we come back to Madison, we’ll definitely...
