We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hotel Ruby Marie! Staying in a room with a bathtub was a must for me, and I took full advantage—at least four relaxing baths! The fireplace was an unexpected bonus, adding to the cozy atmosphere. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean, and had stunning views. It truly felt like a warm and inviting retreat.
One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast downstairs on Saturday morning. The meal was freshly prepared, and the coffee was excellent. We also appreciated the free drink tickets for The Up North bar downstairs. Although there wasn’t a band that night, we had a fantastic time chatting with the bartender and some friendly locals.
On Sunday, we enjoyed using our meal tickets at The Come Back In. The atmosphere was lively, and the beer and food selection was impressive. My husband had walleye with eggs, while I had a delicious fish sandwich. Their selection of German beers was another highlight!
Before booking, I had read countless reviews about Hotel Ruby Marie, hoping for a more intimate and unique experience compared to the larger hotels we had stayed at in the past. This charming hotel exceeded our expectations. We even loved hearing the sound of the train passing by—it was a nostalgic touch for us.
While we didn’t have many interactions with the staff, those we did meet were incredibly friendly. One particularly kind and handsome gentleman checked in on us during breakfast, making sure we had everything we needed and offering room service. His attentiveness made us feel truly cared for.
The little details also stood out—complimentary parking, a selection of candy by the bed, chilled water in the fridge, and real creamer for the coffee. Hotel Ruby Marie’s location is fantastic; despite a snowstorm, we were able to walk everywhere with ease.
With so many options for lodging in downtown Madison, we are thrilled to have found this gem. Our stay was memorable in all the best ways, and we look forward to returning again and again. Thank you, Hotel Ruby Marie, for such a...
Read moreWait a minute, don't you mean Hotel Ruby Wowee? We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful, historic, amazingly appointed hotel with the nicest staff in the world! My husband's family is from Madison, and we usually stay with them. However, this trip we decided to get a slice of downtown life and lucked into booking the very last room available in the marvelous Ruby Marie. Upon checking in (btw an incredibly easy process; uber friendly desk attendants ), we were handed drink tickets to use in the attached Up North bar (so fun, dance floor, great music, some of which was live, super friendly bartenders, and a wonderful assortment of libations) as well as vouchers for breakfast at the nearby Come Back Inn. The breakfasts were huge, and again, we were treated to that impeccable Midwest hospitality each morning. This hotel is within easy walking distance of the Capitol around which we strolled in our successful search for fresh cheese curds from local farmers. We also walked to the Monona Terrace and had coffee at the rooftop restaurant there. The RM is extremely well-located, right across from Lake Monona, and our room had a view of the water! Wowee is right! Yes, a train passed through the night, and yes, it was a bit startling, but it only added to our memories of this fantastic hotel that has a rich history of housing train passengers. We highly recommend this property if you would like something different than cookie cutter rooms, lobbies, and exterior architecture. Rather than just stay there, we experienced the Ruby Marie in all her glory. Don't miss out this opportunity to absorb a unique feature of Madison that is the...
Read moreWe recently stayed in room 23 for the Shania Twain concert. We have stayed here before on the weekends and eaten breakfast at the Come Back Inn with the provided coupons, and that has always been a great experience. This was our first time eating breakfast on a weekday morning from the downstairs bakery, that is provided by the hotel. Breakfast is to be served until 11 am and we arrived just before 9 am. The food was almost completely gone and not being replaced by the attendant working . When my husband attempted to get her attention, she ignored him. The bacon was harder than beef jerky, the hash browns that were left for us were undercooked, and the only somewhat edible thing was the scrambled eggs. My husband took an apple and it was so rotten that he couldn’t eat it, and had to throw it away. There was no juices available, just a small amount of water in a container. My husband went behind the counter, found a couple of mugs and poured us each some coffee that was left in a pot. The attendant turned and looked at him when he did this, and then looked away again. Another guest came downstairs after us and was turned away by the attendant who told her their was no more breakfast available. This was around 9:20 am. When we later said something to the front desk we were told that breakfast goes until 11am. We were also told that good help can be hard to find nowadays, and that was the excuse that was made to us for the worst breakfast we have ever been provided at a hotel. Buyer be aware on weekdays if you are expecting a provided breakfast with your stay. You may want to have a backup plan for another...
