In 1949, New Castle, Pennsylvania natives Forrest Raffel and his younger brother, Leroy Raffel, bought a restaurant equipment company based in Youngstown, Ohio from their uncle. ), and renamed it Raffel Brothers, Inc. By the early 1960s, the company had grown into a leading food service consulting company. Designing and building restaurants and analyzing the fast food market, the Raffel brothers came to the conclusion that there was an unoccupied niche for a chain of fast food restaurants based on dishes other than hamburgers. They decided that their future was to create such a network. In their opinion, the roast beef sandwich was ideal for the main course of the new restaurant chain. The Raffel brothers originally wanted to name their restaurants Big Tex, but that name was already taken. Then they came up with the name Arby's, which comes from the first letters of the phrase "Raffel Brothers" (eng. Raffel Brothers - RB - Arby's).
On July 23, 1964, the Ruffel brothers opened their first restaurant, Arby's, in Boardman, Ohio, near Youngstown. The building, in the style of a classic American field kitchen, the restaurant's giant hat sign, and the interior design, which used natural wood and stone, was reminiscent of the Old West and looked "more expensive" than a typical fast food restaurant of those years. Initially, the menu was presented only with roast beef sandwiches, French fries and iced tea. Sandwiches sold for 69 cents, more than three times the price of McDonald's hamburgers, for example, but the Ruffel brothers believed their high quality food and expensive interiors would attract wealthy customers. Their expectations were met, and a year later the first franchise restaurant was opened in Akron (Ohio). The success of Arby's prompted other fast food chains to also start targeting wealthier customers - Burger King and McDonald's, for example, expanded their menus (introducing more expensive dishes) and began working on improving the interiors of their restaurants.
In 1976, the Ruffel family sold Arby's to the Royal Crown Cola Company (headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia). In 1981, the first Arby's restaurant outside the United States was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had gone through the drive thru and ordered and the worker who met me at the window was very impatient, I gave her the money and she shoved the change into my hand and before I could get it all, she let go, so my coins fell to the ground. She did not apologize at all. She kept on acting impatient which she explained because they r timed. Not from the moment the customer orders and gets their food but from the moment they order to the moment they leave the drive thru line. So I felt like I couldnāt even open my car door and pick up my change. She kept on saying thank you and have a good night. She was rude and pushy. Oh and this was at 12:15am(so in the middle of the night) and there was no one behind me at all. Honestly I donāt know if they are timed like that or not but customer service from what this girl right was to just say thank u and have a good night. Sorry girl but it means so much more. It does not include being pushy, impatient, sigh heavily at the customer, and act like youāre annoyed at the customer for even showing up! Another thing if it wasnāt for customers then u wouldnāt have a job. Try and be a little bit more grateful and happier to see the customers! Anyway for the experience that I just had there means Iām not going to be coming back for awhile. I had ordered a large jamocha shake which was actually the regular size and there was not chocolate drizzle on top and the 4 piece nuggets which I guess is supposed to come with bbq sauce and I was given no sauce or even asked if I wanted sauce. I should have asked for sauce but I was so annoyed at everything else that I completely forgot my sauce until I left the...
