Taqueria El Gallo de Oro — Restaurant in Maine Township

Moved to Des Plaines from Chicago and we were in absolute need to find a good Mexican restaurant. This taqueria definitely hits the spot. We order fajitas and taco dinners from there all the time. The place itself does not deliver and if you don't want to pay inflated prices from food delivery services you are better off picking it up. The restaurant seems to always be busy, so occasionally may be hard to get your order in over the phone. Not a big deal for us personally, might be for some. The girl working the front isn't exactly chatty, but she rings you up and takes your order fast. The wait time for food is typically 20-45 min depending on order size and type of order. Nothing out of ordinary when we lived in Chicago. The food itself is great. Absolutely love their steak. Probably one of the top three we ever had. With shortages of workers around US, do not be surprised this and many other restaurants are struggling to keep up...

After our experience today we will never be coming back. Not only is there a staff shortage, lack of space and incompetent staff but on a number of occasions we have been incorrectly charged. After finally addressing the issue today the server attempted to persuade us and tell us that we had been correctly billed (more than +15.00). After grabbing a menu and trying to make sense of the total it was followed by the workers at the establishment attempting to make us feel as if it was our fault for their mistake without apologizing. Our server also took our food which we had intended to clearly take home and did not apologize or offer something in return when stacking the plates on top of each other. As someone who regularly drives up here from Lake Forest to dine we will be taking our business elsewhere. Not worth the time or the money, plenty of other small businesses around that will value...

Let me just start with saying if you are looking for a good Mexican restaurant who will deliver good quality service and food then you are looking at the WRONG restaurant! This restaurant I had ordered my food to pickup and drove almost a hour out of my way to pick it up I called and asked specifically what I wanted from them and they said “yes I understand” I pick up my meal the lady who works there has a guilty smirk on her face as she handed me the bag which then I should have looked in the bag but didn't. To then go home and find out my entire meal was completely wrong! Ordered Taquito dinner but then gave me chicken tacos instead with mushy gross tomatoes on it and I asked for birria quesadillas with the consome and they gave me soggy tacos instead and no consome with the order! I rate this restaurant 0 stars! For the poor food quality...
