Mee Thai Review I meant to do a review of just Mee Thai in Orlando on Lee Rd but discovered that it appeared I was giving them a poor review and that is NOT the case at all. When we say a restaurant is very good or poor, its is almost impossible to not compare them to other, similar fare establishments that we have visited. Therefore, this has become a comparison between DEE Thai, Lake Mary and MEE Thai, Orlando — that’s not confusing at all. Today I had lunch at MEE Thai because I had read all the great reviews and I love Thai food. Let me start out by saying my benchmark for the quality of Thai food is Panang Curry and Thai Iced Tea. First things first. Both restaurants have excellent, friendly wait staff. If they didn’t then there would be no reason to continue. The difference in price was $1 more at DEE Thai for the same fare, which is inconsequential. Both served their food quickly and the meals looked very similar. The food. DEE Thai has MUCH more depth of flavor — both in the Panang AND the rice. I don’t know how they do it, but DEE Thai has the best rice I’ve ever had. I know, I know, you’re thinking, “its just rice!” Prior to DEE Thai I would have totally agreed with you, but.. you have to experience it to appreciate it. The rice at MEE Thai is “stickier”, which Thai rice is supposed to be sticky like sushi rice. Other than that, the flavor of their rice is just like everyone else’s. The Panang at MEE Thai has more vegetables than DEE Thai, especially carrots. Fortunately, I love carrots. DEE Thai has more protein. MEE Thai is more “soupy” than DEE Thai which may partially explain the lack of depth of flavor compared to DEE Thai. The Thai Tee is more “coarse” at MEE Thai and not quite as sweet as DEE Thai. Looking at the menus, MEE Thai has many more fish (especially Tilapia) choices and apparently duck is popular. I know it seems that I’m putting down MEE Thai but that is definitely NOT the case. If I had not eaten at DEE Thai, then MEE Thai might be my new favorite Thai restaurant. On my never-ending, constant quest to find the best Thai food in our area, I would currently rate DEE Thai, Lake Mary #1, MEE Thai, Orlando #2, and Thailicious, Longwood #3.

I’ve had Mee Thai marked on my “to try” map for a few years now and finally went today. I’m sorry, Dalis Lao Thai Cafe, but now you’re my 2nd favorite Panang curry. My only complaint was that their AC wasn’t working. That’s it. And they do a crazy amount of takeout so it’s moot, I could just take it to go. We wanted to try a bit of everything (plus leftovers, yay) and got most of our usual favorites to judge by. We started with the appetizer sampler with fresh (summer) rolls, my favorite hot weather snack. Theirs were good, wrappers broke but still good filing ratio and tender shrimp. The peanut sauce was ok, Viet-Nomz is still the king of summer rolls and peanut sauce in my book. The fried spring rolls and cheese rolls (think crab Rangoon as a spring roll) we’re excellently filled and seasoned, fried so crispy. The fried tofu was done well and soaked up all that lovely sweet and sour fish sauce. Coconut shrimp were good, crispy outside but not dry inside. The Tom kha was outstanding with a deep flavor to the broth that wasn’t too strongly coconut, lime, sweet, or fish sauce. The chunks of chicken and veggies were more reasonably sized than a lot of places. Then came the mains. Panang chicken with a savory sauce bordering a bit heavier on the peanut which is absolute perfection in my book. They take their spice levels seriously so if you’re a borderline hot/medium like I am go for medium. The veggies were tender (and yay zucchini! I love zucchini and don’t often see it in curries) and the meat both tender and plentiful while still having enough delicious curry sauce to soak into your rice. Dad had the basil stir fry which was the same quality ingredients with a different symphony of flavors. Service was attentive, portions were generous, and I’d even go back sans AC again!

Delicious Thai food and excellent customer service! Greeted when we walk in and seated at clean tables. Our server brought us our drinks and a simple salad (lettuce, cabbage, shaved carrots, and sauce on a small plate) which is FREE and was gracious when we asked what the other customers were drinking (picture is below). The Thai tea is absolutely divine and delicious, the drunken fried rice is a must try and you get your choice of protein (pictured below is shrimp), Mixed vegetable Pad Thai also with choice of protein (pictured below is chicken), some fresh cheese rolls (Delicious!), and last is some Mochi with ice cream filling for dessert (pictured below are the three flavors they have: strawberry, green tea and mango) garnished with some chocolate syrup and whipped cream with a cherry on top. I highly recommend trying out the food here and giving this business a chance. They are very friendly and welcoming with their guests, their food is delicious, the place is clean and well kept, and the prices are great!

So, in the past, I have eaten here a lot, at least twice a month, sometimes every week. It used to be So Yummy... Update to my previous rating, it was 4 stars, would have given 4 1/2 stars, just because the parking lot dangerous. But the last two visits were so disappointing that I'm taking it down to 1 star. Idk, maybe they are under new ownership? Or maybe they hired a whole new staff, including the cook/chef. Because the last two visits I spent $65 to $75, and the recent visit, I Couldn't even eat the food. The Panang Curry was just pure coconut milk, no flavor. I asked to substitute the bell peppers for broccoli, and unfortunately the broccoli was so bad that it had turned completely yellow. Anyone who knows anything about vegetables understands that that means they've been sitting around for a very long time and the broccoli is very old. I asked for a vegetarian option, with Lots of veggies. I did get a lot of deep fried tofu, and just a few pieces of cabbage, two pieces of zucchini, and then this yellow, old, rotten broccoli. Just Sad. So if you really love fried flavorless tofu, floating and coconut milk, I guess you might be happy with the meal. It was so heavy, greasy and just plain gross. The glass noodles Pad Woosen, was off too, it had rotten broccoli, few pieces of cabbage and tasted like plain soy sauce. Period. No real flavor. Then... The rice... I had thought reading some of the previous reviews , that maybe people didn't understand what Thai "sticky rice" was. I did not order any Sticky Rice this visit. What I received was supposed to be Jasmine rice, it was a large clump of mush, what I think was rice? So Awful! It was all stuck together and so wet, and cloopy, there were no separate grains of rice. Could not be salvaged, had to throw it out. The only thing that I Could eat was the papaya salad, Sum Tum, it was good. But not worth it, when I had spent $75.00. I'm really sad, not because I've just wasted $150 on the last couple times I visited here, but because this used to be my favorite Thai restaurant. I've tried every Thai restaurant in town. Mee Thai Used to be so good, more like "home cooking". I've been coming here for 4 or 5 years now. But after the last two visits, I guess I will not be returning. What a major...

The drunken noodles are the best around. The curries are above average compared to others in orlando. The waterfall beef salad and larb salad is good as well. the cheese rolls are a must try! It's like the best crab Rangoon you'll find and it only cost 3 dollars for 3. they are very filling. The Thai tea is good. The Tom yum soup doesn't measure up. It tastes more like vegetable soup. and they don't have the grill for the satay since not enough kitchen space. The satay is fried and not that great. The Thai basil is decent but has a lot of liquid. The owner is thai works hard and is very nice. The worst part of eating here is the servers. While they are nice they do not pay attention to the customers. They really do the owner a disservice by not paying better attention to the customers. Today, I came in the server brought me a menu and I ordered everything right away. I knew what I was getting. The server took my order and proceeded to do other things except bring me my drink and I was thirsty. She then brought my hot appetizer and I still didn't have my drink. She was cleaning a table and the place was not busy instead of bringing me my drink. I thought maybe she was told to clear the table first sucks for me. I had ordered my dish thai spicy and drank all of my thai tea somewhat fast. My server never came over despite my empty glass on the edge of the table. I could hear her talking in the back I was seated close to the drink station. I was so thirsty eating this hot food and couldn't get a drink. Then she comes out doesn't even look at me and then cleans another table. Was she my server or was she the bus boy? Thankfully the black server came over and helped me. She was working hard while the Spanish looking girl was moving slowly and inattentive. I live far from this thai place and traveled for the experience and quality of food. I am used to the servers not being attentive but this girl was over the top even sitting briefly with a customer while my glass was empty. In Thailand this is their culture but these lady's were not thai.

I will continue to come and encourage others to come just make sure you stay on top of your server to...
