Moved to Malden last year and found this great ice cream place! If you're from Massachusetts, they have the wide range of ice cream flavors like Treadwell's (including fresh fruit in seasonal flavors like peach and strawberry), they use Richardson's ice cream, they have the same insane portion sizes as Hodgie's (a "teenie" is 1 scoop, a "kiddie" is 2...they use photo examples so you aren't accidentally buying 10 scoops of ice cream), they have soft serve/soft serve twists and hard shell dips like Dairy Queen, and the "blended flavorings" soft serve like Kelle's Kreme at Revere Beach.
Oh, they also do multiple size sundaes, banana splits, frappes, floats, gelatti, slushes, "tornados" (soft serve mixed with crushed toppings or fruit), "moolatas" (soft serve of your choice in a slush of your choice with whipped cream), and "icebergs" (soft serve floating on slush of your choice).
Besides the traditional ice creams and soft serves, they have frozen yogurt, slush, slurpies, sorbet, sherbet, no fat flavors, no sugar flavors, vegan flavors, and a few 100% dairy free (might be Lactaid?) flavors. They also make and sell homemade ice cream sandwiches, brownie sundaes, multiple types of ice cream cones (waffle, sugar, dream cones), fountain sodas, raspberry lime rickeys, canned sodas, and bottled water.
There is a million options here for people who love, like, or don't even like ice cream. I've seen people simply buy a soda and a home made cone, or a bowl of toppings and a slush because of how varied their menu is. A great local place for the basics, huge catering sizes (literally sell things called "buckets"), or if you're old school and are looking for a style of ice cream you had in the 70s.
I've tried both a small sundae and a small hard traditional ice cream in a cone; I genuinely couldn't finish them. Before you order, especially with children, watch some of the finished items being handed out. You'll immediately go back to the menu to see if you need a smaller size or see if someone in your party will share with you!
They provide spoons, napkins, cups, lids, and will give you cups of ice water for free. You can order ahead for pick-up, but they don't do delivery. They're open until 9:00PM during the week and 10:00PM on weekends. They take both debit/credit cards and cash. You can check their menu out online. The prices are SHOCKINGLY CHEAP for the sheer amount of food you're getting.
Definitely check this place out. It's the only place I've been able to find a soft serve twist with cherry dip and the old fashioned crushed toasted nuts on it. I haven't seen that since the 80's and assumed it was discontinued. It's on the corner of a main street, so there's no direct parking lot, however it's across from a convenience store, gas station, and laundromat, so there IS parking nearby. Sometimes there are lines, but they move quickly. Depends on time of...
Read moreThe first thing I'd like to say is that I really enjoy their ice cream and greatly appreciate having a place like it in my neighborhood. With that said, it takes a lot for me to think ill of this establishment.... Today I experienced one of the worst customer service interactions I've ever had. I knew they would be closing today, as that was posted on their website, and very much wanted to enjoy their ice cream one last time this season but was unable to go earlier in the weekend. I didn't have today off for the holiday and went over as I got home, about half an hour before the advertised closing time. I walked down only to discover they had already closed. This was confusing, disappointing, and frustrating. I called to seek clarification and to discover if I had missed or misunderstood something, and it was confirmed by the employee who answered the phone that they had closed at "ummm... 8?". I asked how I was supposed to know that, and they curtly told me they would have told me that if I had asked. Perplexed, I asked if they really meant I should have called earlier in the day to ask if they would be closing earlier than advertised, and they replied yes. I frankly informed them that came across as rude, and their only response was "I don't know. We probably put it on our website or something". Really makes you feel like your loyalty is...
Read morePut a damper on my great day! Went for my birthday tonight, we are usuals. I always get the same thing there & tonight I wanted to try a diff/new flavor (craving like a chocolate flavor). My BF had ordered his large ice cream w/lots of extra toppings. I was in the middle of ordering mine. I had sampled 2 flavors & wanted 1 more. The girl at the window told me "This isn't unlimited samples you know. You can go somewhere else." Her tone of voice was rude whether she noticed or not & it was embarrassing while there was a line behind us. We were going to order for a group too, but after tonight we won't be back & we will tell our friends/family that support not...
