Pre-COVID review.
So it seems this place has really cleaned up. I've been here a few times now since they've remodeled etc.
From the moment i walked into the door I felt a better sense of urgency from the staff. I was greeted and brought to our table immediately.
The new outside seating is great and enjoyable. They have comfortable couches with heat lamps just in case it gets cold.
With all that said lets move onto the food and everything else.
I ordered the sushi combination #2 x2 pieces of each. Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon. And your choice of California or spicy tuna roll.
The fish is fresh, the garnish is elegant and well placed. The roll tastes exactly as it should.
Also ordered the Shrimp and veggie combo tempura. 10pcs? more like 14-15 pcs. You can't go wrong with this. It's A LOT of food and for the price and the location? you can't beat it. Fried to perfection with tempura batter it tasted great and was presented well.
All in all I would definitely recommend this place. If you want an affordable sushi in Malibu go here. The atmosphere is great. Not to loud and crazy. Light conversation and I was able to hear myself think.
The staff has really gotten better here. Or maybe it was just how well our waitress did? either way I was impressed with how much this place has improved. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is... price, portion and decor.
Outside tables need to be updated asap. They are small and dirty looking.
Food: Above average. Decor: Inside? awesome. Outside? needs new tables. Customer service: OUTSTANDING! had no issues. Very attentive. Cleanliness: Bar and tables are very...
Read moreOrdered roasted eggplant with oyster sauce to go. $16.00 Before I left the restaurant I checked the order. There was less than $1.50 worth of eggplant in the container, literally 8 small slices that looked barely cooked. A whole medium eggplant in Ralph’s is $3.00 Wholesale from a distributor it’s $1.50 for a whole large eggplant. I asked the very young inexperienced order taker & one of the waiters if this was a mistake… was it the normal order?. They assured me that “oh yes this is the eggplant order for $16.00.” I had paid with my CC when I ordered it. Total with tip was 18.50 I told them both I didn’t want it. They both stared at each other & then walked away. I left it on the counter & left the restaurant. The restaurant asks for your phone # when you place a to go order. It’s been 3 hrs since I left the restaurant & you would hope someone would have either called or texted to defend the price, apologize or at least ask why I left the paid for food on the counter. Hasn’t happened yet & I frankly don’t expect I will hear from the restaurant. I absolutely don’t expect that they will cancel my CC charge for the food & service I was dissatisfied with & never left with.. Portions are ridiculously small & high priced. The customers that come back allow the restaurant to continue to get away with it. The many customers that have had a similar expierence & feel the way I do, will probably never go back….. That’s one of the main reasons there are so many restaurants going out...
Read moreFood was good, thats about it. But the service was aweful. The place was NOT busy, but we sat down and the waitresses avoided us like the plague. We had to grab one waiter for our drinks, and then had to grab the old guy (the cook) to order our food, then we had to grab a different waitress for a refill on drinks, and then another waitress for our bill. Never were we once asked how we were doing The lady employee wearing blue jeans (im guessing the owner, the owner's wife, or the manager) kept acting like she was busy yet never really did anything but stand in the back and people watch.
The service was so bad that for the absolute first time in my life, i didnt leave a tip. On top of that, i didnt feel bad about it either. Same goes with the guy who went with me.
Im gonna chalk that place as a fiasco. The serving sizes were EXTREMELY SMALL for the price.
You can get about twice the food at Sumo Sushie in Camarillo for that price. Even with the long drive you'd still save money, get bigger and better food, and get better service. (I am not a rep for them. Just a mil veteran checking out local food joints...
