Fred's Fish House — Restaurant in Mammoth Spring

Sitting here. Relaxing after a wonderful meal. My husband and I both had the Walleye meal special. Also tried the Vanilla pie. Excellent meal. A lite cornmeal breading on the fish that was fried just right. Very clean tasting fish. Hushpuppies that were cooked through without being hard, and I could taste some onion. The only way to do hushpuppies. Coleslaw that was the sweet creamy kind and fries. The Vanilla pie had a cream cheese layer over a graham cracker crust, a pudding layer with some coconut over that, then a layer of whipped topping sprinkled with pecans. A very light consistency, and absolutely yummy. We will be back. This was our first visit and we will return with some friends. Service was quick and pleasant. What more could you ask for? Awful service! Server(Jackie) acted like it was a bother that we came in. I asked a question about a menu item and she looked at me like it was a dumb question. Maybe it was however I don’t know the menu, I don’t work their. We waited for about 20 mins for her to get our drinks we had ordered. 4 tables came in after us and had their food we were still waiting on ours. Never once did she say let me check on your food or I’m sorry it’s taking longer or anything. My better half was furious and a hourish later we still had no food. I asked for tea but never got it. We came in for lunch today 3/1. My husband had the catfish. He said it was ok but the hush puppies were full of grease. I had the walleye and it was not good. The batter was fried too quick and came off so it was like I was eating baked fish. My hush puppies were also full of grease. They have an open concept so you can see in the kitchen.
