My experience at HawaU was good! It literally just opened yesterday but the employees were super kind & had great smiles to greet me, they also did give me detailed explanations on their menu & for everything i asked cheerfully.
Now THE FOOD: The popcorn chicken; okay so I'll probably crave these once a week or so .. they were SOOOO good & crispy & coated with Katsu breading so that definitely added a great crispy taste to them! & their sauces are AMAZING! Definitely in house made, the green sauce: i would like to bathe in plssss lol. It was so good! Great quality of chicken too. Also came with a thin bed of fries underneath it and the fries were seasoned perfectly and perfectly crispy too.
The Musubis were scrumptiousss, like wow! I ordered the katsu musubis & they did not disappoint. The seaweed was super fresh too. & the egg omelette in it was soft, light, & tasty.
Food was ready in under 7 mins. Made from scratch
The seating area could be better but in all honesty they just opened yesterday and they did not have too long to convert this place from a deli so I think that will spruce up very soon, but they DID have a really cute selfie wall.
The menu is also not a big one especially for Hawaiian place but they did say they will be adding more things to the menu soon.
A friend of mine's tried HawaU on their first day, she ordered the loco moco and said it was delicious & fresh,
I was on the phone with her as she was eating, only thing we were disappointed in is the loco moco comes with mac & cheese and NOTTT the usual Hawaiian Mac salad.
For someone who has tried L& L Hawaiian barbecue several times, I can say that this definitely has potential to be on that level. The food is already just as delicious they just have to update the menu more but so far so good I was not disappointed at all.
So for a new establishment and keeping in mind the time they had to get this place together and the freshness and deliciousness of the food this place is definitely worth...
Read moreMy first time there and decided to just order thru Door Dash and pick up (Introvert here). It was quiet when I arrived and I was early for my order so I used the restroom while they finished. After the restroom, I waited for about 5 min before my food was ready. The guy was nice and gave me a tip to make sure to stir my strawberry lemonade before drinking it. I got the fried chicken loco moco platter. With the orange and brown sauces. It came with macaroni salad, a cabbage slaw and white rice. There was also jalapenos with the macaroni salad. I also got the spam musubi. Which comes with 2 generous size pieces topped with the orange and brown sauce.
I drove down the road b/c I was picking up food from another place, and ate a few bites while it was still hot. The chicken bites were I think fried in panko, so it was very crunchy. Alone they were pretty basic in flavor but were so good with the sauces. I ate bites with the slaw, and the rice and I really liked those combos. The macaroni salad I didn't like very much. It didn't have much flavor and I thought the dressing for it was a bit on the gloopy side. I'm sure this is likely traditional and how it's supposed to be but just wasn't my fave.
I absolutely loved everything else. Eating the chicken with the rice/cabbage/jalapenos combos was so satisfying. I love that the rice was super sticky, like sushi rice. It's so much easier to eat and I enjoyed the texture very much. Oh and the strawberry lemonade was soooo good! Very fresh and refreshing. I'll definitely be going back when I'm in...
Read more20/10 Yummy, great portion, decently flavored (not to salty or sweet, just right), and honestly feel like their menu is under priced compared to quantity/quality of meal.
For like 100 food places/restaurants I’ve been to (American, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Italian) in MD, VA, DC This is my first restaurant I feel like I can eat here every day. These are really delicious! (If you eat outside many times, even though it’s delicious but still you miss home food at certain point)
When I eat, I give soft puppy bites (snack) to my doggie because she waits under the table (normally, she is fed with chicken, beef etc. she’s well fed). THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SHE REFUSED TO TAKE THE SNACK!! haha She looked so mad that I wasn’t giving her the same food I was eating. She could smell the food was yummy 😋 (I will make her special dinner later)
Thank you for the food! Tonkatsu and spam musubi...
