I did not leave a single crumb on the plate. If I was in the area, I would surely have gone back the next day to eat the same dish. Today, I decided to explore the flavors from the East Africa by trying Ethiopian cuisine. The African continent is home to more than 50 countries, each with its own unique dishes. Having tried cuisines from various African countries, I was looking forward to comparing this cuisine with what I have had previously in other restaurants. The waitress at Vera's Kitchen was very pleasant and able to explain the items on the menu when we ordered. I choose to eat Beyaynetu, a vegetarian dish served with injera bread, a spongy injera flat bread made from highly nutritious gluten-free teff flour. I loved the complex and rich flavors of the five items on top of the injera bread. Pieces of the bread are normally torn off and used to grab the lentils and vegetables on top, although using a fork is also an option. And like I said-not a crumb was left on the plate. I finished the meal off with fine Ethiopian coffee that arrived in the traditional vessel. If there is anything that could be improved, possibly the restaurant's decor but I went there for the food. When the food is this excellent, ambiance is just a bonus.

I had this place saved up on my list for a while now, things finally fell into place and we were able to go for lunch. It's Superbowl Sunday, so we weren't expected a whole lot of people at around 3 pm, and to nobody's surprise we were the only ones there. Vera was the only one there (I think). She left the choice of where to sit on us. The atmosphere was nice, there was some calm Ethiopian instrumental music playing. We ordered the Beg Wot (lunch sized) with injera and Foulle (without feta cheese, not a fan of it). The food was very good, one of the best Ethiopian I've had. Usually I used to go all the way to Woodbridge when I craved this food, but good to know now that I don't have to do so far. Vera was very welcoming and ready to answer any questions we might have had regarding the food. If you're in the area, a fan of Ethiopian food or would like to try some for the first time, definitely stop by Vera's. Just a final note - Vera mentioned this too, but don't order a lunch sized portion, go with the full serving. The lamb is amazing and the smaller portion doesn't do it justice. I look forward to going back, hopefully very soon.

We happened to come across this place while searching for food options in the area. Vera's Kitchen has incredibly tasty food options, a very cozy and homey ambiance, and excellent service! We ordered the sambusas and beyaynetu. Both dishes came arranged beautifully. Each of the foods that made up the beyaynetu entree were served on a large injira bread and had deep layers of flavors and textures that kept us wanting more. Eddy, who was working the front of the restaurant, even brought out a sample of their Ginger Boost Tea, which tasted amazing and paired excellently with the rest of the food. Towards the end, Vera came out to talk to us and we chatted a bit about how she makes some of her dishes. It was just truly an authentic experience, and we feel lucky that we accidentally came across this restaurant.

I would give zero stars if i could. Ordered from here for the first time after work because the place i usually go to in woodbridge was gonna be closed before getting there. I always get awaze tibs and gomen or kik alicha and this one smelled and tasted different than what I’m used to. 20-30 minutes after eating it, I broke out in hives. I only ate a little bit because i couldnt get past the weird taste and smell and it was also very oily. This has never happened before when I eat ethiopian food at the various different ethiopian restaurants I’ve been to in woodbridge and alexandria. When i called to tell them what happened and to ask for a refund, she said the food was fresh and it’s not their problem so i cant get a refund and that i should call my doctor instead. How rude. I dont get hives often so i know it was something they put in the food that isn’t disclosed. Im extremely disappointed in the food and the customer service and definitely won’t be back or recommend this place to anyone. I would have been better off...
