Really dissapointed in this place. I'm Sober, Came for Pride Night. I'm disabled no one posted that there were steep inaccessible stairs to get to the event. I hurt myself taking them. Also, the little menu at the bar only had alcohol drinks listed that night and the bartender refused to take my money for buying soda only telling me to come back to buy an alcoholic drink. No NA drinks were available that night. As a sober person this hurt me I was told this bar was sober safe by staff but clearly not ifthey're encouraging me to buy alcohol.
Also, not a single person talked to me at pride Night. There were 3 of us at the bar all staring at eachother who drank our drinks and left bcause the hosts and such were all cornered up in 2 booths together and not welcoming or talking to anyone new who came in... Very dissapointing experience won't be going back.
Bartender also called me Mam as a Trans Man this was offensive.
If they're going to advertise Pride events on Facebook they should let folks know it's not accessible especially when the staff who told me to come know...
Read moreGoogle has this listed as a gay bar. Definitely not a gay bar. It's a mixed crowd which is fine, but I would recommend to the owners of the location to update the Google description so that it's not listed as a gay bar. To get to the bar you have to go downstairs. I would have liked to have known that ahead of time there is no access that I could see for people with disabilities. And then when you get downstairs it's very congested. It's in a very college section of Manhattan. So a lot of the crowd is college kids, loud noisy using a ball game volume to talk rather than an inside volume. So it was a little annoying. It was also very dirty When we went to the bar the seat was covered with something sticky and so was the bar in the menu so I had to ask the bartender for something to clean with. The drinks were reasonably priced but it definitely reminds you of being in a basement, It's humid and very uncomfortable. If somebody would open up a gay bar in this town they...
Read moreAuntie Mae's is a smooth, soulful place. The atmosphere is great. The basement is a safe haven for anyone who wants to get some drinks in a tranquil environment.
The staff are great always. The blends of a peaceful aura, exciting choice of drinks, and finger foods for anyone who wants to grab a light dinner.
Auntie Mae's was my first experience of a bar in Manhattan, and it's felt like home ever since.
Last night, Friday 17th February, 2023, I had my first racist encounter at Aunty Mae's. A group of white kids taunted me for being Black even though I wasn't bothering anyone. It was horrible. You can't even peaceful be a Black person in an American bar on a Friday night.
I guess it might be time to stay off Aunty Mae's for the time being. I never want to be in that...
