Five stars is a rare rating from me, but Soulman's Bar-B-Que absolutely earns it. I was recommended this place by a co-worker and I have to say that it was a gem of a discovery. BBQ is probably one of my favorite food groups of all time and I have tried everything from the tried and true Texas style, to Kansas City and the Carolinas. Soulman's was a real treat. I tried a three meat plate with Brisket, Ham and Ribs with their Ranch House Bean, Spicy Potatoes and Potato Salad. Ribs and brisket are often how I judge a BBQ joint and here I was not disappointed. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, moist and had a flavorful bark with just enough of the rub pleasantly seared to the meat. A nice, crisp bark surrounded the sliced brisket with a wonderful deep smoke ring in the tender slices that were not dry at all, like so many places. The ham was even a bit surprising. It was well textured, juicy and held a wonderful smoked flavor. What really impressed me were the sides. The Ranch House Beans had pieces of ham, sausage and brisket in them with chunks of onions and peppers. They were amazing. As was the Spicy Potatoes, a dish of pan-fried potatoes, peppers and onions. They have twelve different sides to choose from and they all looked delicious, except of course for the cabbage, but that is just a personal taste for me. Apparently on Friday nights they have a catfish fry that really packs the place out. Going to have to return and try that out. If you are in the Mansfield area, you have to stop by Soulman's and give them a try. Bring your appetite, because they are not stingy with the servings and enjoy one of the Metroplex's genuine gems in BBQ faire.

UPDATE 10/7/2024 consumers, be aware that they DO NOT WEIGH MEAT ON INDIVIDUAL MEALS - I was informed today by upper management that they “eyeball individual servings” and they should be between 3.5 - 4 ounces in meat. “It’s not our policy to weigh individual meals to keep the line moving faster” BUT IF ANY OF Y’ALL HAVE EATEN HERE, you know the line NEVER MOVE FAST. SO EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Yet somehow EVERY OTHER BBQ in the metroplex seems to be able to weight their portions AND keep the line moving at a satisfactory pace. I expect consistency in portions and SHOULD NOT have to ask for my individual portions to be weighed (as I was encouraged to do by upper management), as if I’ll EVER RETURN after the explanation I received. EDIT 10/5/24 sadly, I’m thinking this will be our LAST visit. Decided not to dine here today. After the employee tried to explain away why she wasn’t weighing the meat as she sliced and served customers. There was a clear discrepancy in the amount of meat served on the single meat sliced beef dinner. Customer service and consistency are lacking. Sorry. Initial review: Food was absolutely delicious, from the sliced brisket and sausage to the amazing side options!! Floors were extremely greasy/slippery and it required us to walk sliding our feet to prevent a fall :(

I must like being punished. I've been to quite a few Soulman's locations. Rockwall, Van, Mesquite, Ft. Worth and now Mansfield. The Van location being the best of all of them. That said, Soulmans is the McDonald's of bbq. One thing is consistent with this place with the exception of the Van, TX location is that they are in fact stingy with the meats. Then again I guess it depends on who you are which is what I noticed at the Mesquite location. This go around I got the 2 meat plate and the brisket was so dry it was falling apart when I tried to pick it up. The sausage? What sausage? Stingy as heck! The sides were okay. But please take "We're not stingy with our meats" out of y'alls vocabulary. Because you are. I'm done with this chain.

Busy place, I think just because it's new in Mansfield. I had a sliced brisket sandwich plate, I left still hungry, the brisket was good but dry, the bun was VERY small for a bbq sandwich, slightly bigger than a McDonald's bun. I go to Rudys about twice a week, its better by far in my opinion. I really wanted to order a second sandwich because the first wasn't filling, way to small. I tried Soulman's years ago when the were sat up outside reunion arena during a hockey game, I remember it was much better, bigger sandwich and moist, not dry. I may try this again, not sure though unless they change the size of their sandwiches. The bbq plates look pretty good, more food. Staff is very friendly, atmosphere is good. When I went there was a pretty long line, the only menu is right behind the food, they need one farther back in the line, they are asking you what you want before you even get to where you can see the menu. I give them 5 stars for service friendliness and cleanliness, I give them 3 stars for taste but the size of the sandwich gets them only 2 stars. I'm not a fast eater and the sandwich was gone in about, maybe 8 to 10 bites. Im still hungry, not good! Maybe they will work on this. Overall, dissapointed! I wanted to order another sandwich and show them this review before I posted it but then thought, they've been around long enough that they should already know their sandwiches are too small. I would welcome a call from...
