I had to wait a week to write this review. I really expected this to be a great experience. I read amazing reviews and always want to support local places. I have owned and managed restaurants for over 25 years and I couldn't imagine treating anyone the way Lydia treated me and my order. I called and left a message. Lydia called me back and asked me about my order. I told her it was my daughters 15th birthday and I wanted something very special. I told her the name and that I wanted a special cake - I asked for a light lemon cake with strawberry or raspberry filling. She asked what her. Favorite color was. I told her teal or blue. That was it. She seemed very confident and told me a 6" cake would be perfect for 8-10 people. I said that was great. Never once did either of us mention money or what it would cost for my "special cake". I said I wanted something special and beautiful for my daughters party. She told me it would be $75 and I paid her. I picked up the cake and didn't even look at it. Busy day, busy party, 8 teenagers, late night and we stayed in a hotel. I told the girls at dinner not to order dessert because I got this amazing cake. Just so bad. Zero decoration. Not a word. Not a flower. Nothing. Horrible dark blue. To say we were all disappointed when I opened the box is an understatement. What is even worse is the cake was inedible. I mean ages 11-58 took one bite and that's it. Dry. Dense. Terrible. It was like some ingredients were missing. Or she made a pound cake or something. So I called. And not only was she rude and said that was "her recipe" and was supposed to be that way - she clearly didn't remember our short conversation AT ALL because she asked what I paid and said "well that's not enough for any artistry". What? I never said anything but I wanted a beautiful cake. She then basically said "I guess we should have had a longer conversation". I said. "Yes. It's your shop and you seemed very confident this would be the best thing ever". She offered me a 50% discount because "well, I made the cake." Yes you did. I said "we threw the cake in the garbage because it was inedible" and then she said. "Do you want a 50% GIFTCARD or not". Not. Not at all. I couldn't imagine treating anyone that way. I have comped full meals for much less. I cater and host big weddings and parties for a living. I was hoping to have a great experience and could use a local artistic baker. I will post a picture of the cake if can find one. I don't know if one exists but honestly it was awful. I have 9 eye witnesses. So it seems like Lydia may do great work. I wouldn't trust her for a party or a wedding. But not for us and she didn't make it right. She was rude, condescending, super defensive and truly...
Read moreLydia's cake is very tasty. I ordered 3 total daily cakes for birthdays I've had to plan. The selection of flavors is very good. The size of the medium cake was a bit on the small side for how many people it said it would serve. There were no left overs but also not very big slices. I was very stressed it wouldnt feed all 9 guests and for a host, not having enough is a big deal. But it worked out. though I wouldn't have been able to feed more people than that (description said 12 people). Another thing to note is that though the wedding cakes all look spectacular, the daily cakes are a bit plain looking compared to other bespoke bakers I've used. Kinda a blank canvas if you want to add fruit or flowers or other decor to it yourself. They all look the same, which I should have considered since I was throwing 3 separate parties and I like variety in aesthetics. Overall I would give 4.5 stars 5 stars for taste, 4.5 stars for appearance, 4.5 stars for service. 4.5 stars for price value. Looking forward to trying the last of the 3 cakes on Saturday. Overall my experience is a positive one, just wanting to ensure people have the right expectations when ordering their...
Read moreLydia was amazing to work with! We did our tasting with her right before the pandemic started and then we had to move our wedding date and make changes to our order due to the pandemic. Lydia was super responsive and easy to work with as we had to make changes. Her cake was phenomenal - we had multiple guests ask for her contact info and say that they cake was the best wedding cake they had ever had! It was great being able to have so many options to choose from when we did our cake tasting. We ended up creating our own little flavor - white chocolate cake, fresh strawberry filling, and cream cheese frosting. I am not a huge cake fan normally - but oh man this cake was delicious! The white chocolate cake is dense, but still very moist - we ended up calling it "strawberry shortcake" at our wedding and it was delightful! Lydia also did a wonderful job setting up all the cupcakes in the crate display we made and arranged the flowers from the florist beautifully. I cannot recommend...
