I’m a local & I had company from out of town. We bought 6 lobster tails which cost me $150!!! When the man behind the counter took the pan of lobster tails to the back, out of site, I thought nothing of it. He brought the tails out to me in a bag with ice. We took them home & grilled them. Looked fabulous. When we bit into them it was horrible. Rotten meat. I called them the next day (as They we’re closed when we grilled the tails) & of course guess what the woman said!! She said “I do not sell bad food. Whatever happens when you leave here is not my fault.” I told her I am a local & know how to cook lobster. She said she could not help me. This is the 2nd business in Marathon that treats locals horribly. Shame on you Kings Rotten Seafood Market. I will be reaching out to the BBB tomorrow. Again let me tell you, I am a local and have a nephew that is a lobster captain in Key West. In all the years that I have been either given lobster or bought lobster have I received such horrible product. I have been cooking and eating lobsters for well over 40 years and I do know how to keep them fresh until time of cooking. They went from your store to my refrigerator and kept there. When we started prepping them to be marinated and cooked, that is when the stench hit us. We washed them off, again after we removed them from the refrigerator and proceeded to prep them. We tried to over look the smell as we thought from being in a fish market such as yours, the smell would be gone once we cooked them. Well, I guess if you sell rotten lobster tails, there is no way any amount of cooking will make them less rotten. Totally unacceptable and not a way to do business. Seriously, blame the customer, especially a local???I guess if you can't afford to refund me $150.00 then you can't buy fresh lobster tails...
Read moreMy sister bought lobsters and brought them home for my husband to marinate before we grilled them. The odor in the whole house was soooo fishy. He marinated them that afternoon in the refrigerator and cooked them later that afternoon and wrapped ours up took them home and again refrigerated them right away. We took them out to eat the next day with our steak and my husband heated his up and OMG I was like, what is that awful smell!? He tasted his and had to spit it out. I tried smelling mine and almost gagged. My sister also had complained to me that they had to put theirs (after being cooked) that they had to put theirs in zip loc bags because the whole refrigerator was sooooo fishy smelling. They went to eat theirs yesterday and the very same thing, unedible. My sister called Kings Seafood and the woman told her "Mam, I don't sell bad seafood!" Well LADY! You do sell bad seafood. I see by some reviews that others agree! Our error was not bringing it back to you when we opened the lobsters up (minutes after being purchased)! We are not only locals now but have been coming down to Marathon for the past 40+ years. We certainly know what a good lobster is and for the absolute rudeness from this woman saying what she said was totally wrong. She could have apologized and offered a replacement or even a discount but all she could offer was her rudeness. We will tell all of our local friends to stay away from King Seafood in Marathon, Florida and we will definitely take our business elsewhere! Whatever happened to customer service?
In response to your response, YOU DON"T GET IT- The lobster smelled horrible when we marinated them! You are in denial. Again, re-read some of your other reviews. Your attitude stinks just like your...
Read moreWe had a great meal at the restaurant. We had the blackened shrimp sandwich, shrimp ceviche, the shrimp and plantain rolls, the blackened Hogfish sandwich, and the blackened shrimp burrito, and finally the fried calamari.
The calamari stole the show. It was the most tender meaty well cooked calamari that I think we have ever had. We also enjoyed the plantain shrimp rolls and the sandwiches.
Luckily for us the restaurant wasn't crowded when we ate there at about 11:30 on a Saturday morning. The employees were very nice, the owner was very personable and we had a brief chat about what's been going on on the island since the hurricane.
When we go back to the restaurant I will be trying to steak sandwich along with the calamari and probably get the blackened shrimp sandwich again.
The reason I took a star away is because of the size of the shrimp that was in the burritos and the sandwich and the ceviche the taste was good, but the shrimp were very small. The price value of these items was a little high.
I looked around the restaurant quite a bit before ordering food, in the shrimp in the seafood cases or quite large and I was hoping for shrimp of a similar size in the sandwiches, the burrito, and the ceviche.
This is a restaurant and a seafood market and obviously the large u15 shrimp were for sale to people buying seafood not eating at the restaurant, and everything looked really fresh, and there was zero fishy smell in the restaurant so the fresh fish was taken care of very well.
I wouldn't...
