I will start with saying that I realize that there have been some lost liquor licenses lately in Marion. However, my experience was honestly...a bit back alley. I was there for a group celebration, and when I went to the bar for a beer I presented my driver's license. Granted I have an out of state license so I understand being asked to repeat my birth date or address but this was not the case. The bartender yelled that it was a fake, yelled is the word to use as it grabbed the attention of many other guests who were audibly shocked and approached me later. I stated that I can assure her that it isn't, I have the up to date travel star in the corner, and she replied that anyone could add the star that it isn't laminated (it is). She then threw in that I need to leave the bar since she believes I am a minor. Throughout the interaction, it was difficult to believe that there weren't different motivations for rejecting me, I moved out of Marion, IA after all due to many discriminate life experiences. I can't say with certainty that was the cause but it's worth a mention I suppose as her actions went above and beyond simply rejecting an ID or trying to confirm identity (many people around sought me out to suggest this and discussing the interaction with strangers was how I got to spend the rest of the evening). I unfortunately wouldn't recommend this place to others, especially if they do not have a scanner or a method to confirm documentation with less room for potential bias...

Edit to response: I think it’s pretty clear what my post means, so I’m not sure what you’re so confused about. The server came over and rudely told me it was fake so I challenged her and she had her manager come over and scan it. After realizing she was in the wrong, I actually was served. I’m more concerned with how rude the server was, and if you have a scanner, why was that option not offered before immediately throwing my ID at me and telling me it’s fake? If my ID didn’t scan then sure, don’t serve me. Please train your staff better with reading ID’s if you are so concerned about fines, so they don’t need to “err on the side...
Read moreGreat service, bar games, and a true bar atmosphere! I actually love the fact that they don’t serve any type of food so they can focus solely on serving drinks. It also helps support the other small businesses in the downtown area since they encourage folks to bring in food from the area to enjoy with your drinks while also playing billiards, darts, or shuffleboard. That’s the reason I put food at 1 star since they don’t serve food. If you’re having a night out there then I recommend getting Tomaso’s pizza to bring in and enjoy with...
