My expectations for this restaurant was too high. I lived in the Middle East and had the privilege of experiencing authentic Indian cuisine - what they are serving at Taste of India does not even come close.
I paid $51.75 (including tip) for 2 portions of butter chicken, 2 mango lassies and 3 pieces if naan. Honestly the most shocking was the price of the naan - one piece of naan costs $3.99 and I am a 100% positive that it's not even homemade. If you choose to get takeout from Taste of India, might I suggest you purchase a 2.2lb bag of naan from Sam's Club for $4.98 - it's probably the same naan they serve. Overall, the food was kind of bland. There was a piece of paper in my butter chicken - it's not the end of the world.
The lady who made the food and helped me was truly kind. I freaked out on the inside when I saw she had a wound on her hand - it did put me off of my food. I would just suggest having a bandaid on it, or wear gloves. She was sweet, and that's just a piece of advice. I was expecting an Indian lady or Indian man preparing the food.
I am really glad that I tried the food - I have been wondering how it is for the longest time. I now know what to expect and probably would not return.
Anyways, if you love curries and love flavorful food, I would...
Read moreWe drive from Shreveport to Longview at least once a week, so we learned about this restaurant from the spray painted trailer that can be seen from I20. We're huge fans of Indian cuisine, so we knew we had to stop and try this place. The menu items were exactly what you would expect: butter chicken, Tikka masala, curry, biryanis, etc. We ordered our usual Indian go -tos: butter chicken, lamb curry, samosas, and mango lasso.
The lamb curry and butter chicken were visually unappealing as the sauce for both was full of grease. The little meat that was in the dishes was full of bones and flavorless. The garlic naan was okay, but tasted more like regular naan. Overall, the entrees were terribly disappointing and we resorted to eating the meat and leaving the greasy sauce behind. The samosas and lassis were ok.
The restaurant is inside a gas station, which is fine - I've had awesome food out of gas stations. However this restaurant/gas station was full of flies and they swarmed us once the food was brought to the table.
Between the flies and the very greasy food, we found the overall experience to be gross. If you want good Indian food, I would recommend driving to Shreveport for Indias on Kings Highway or Indigos on...
Read moreThis was my first time back in a couple of years, and the taste, quantity, and quality have failed badly. A list of what I ordered: Butter chicken: this was ok, lacked salt and flavor, but atleast there was a lot of chicken in the small portion. Lamb biryani: this was the best out of what I ordered, decent flavor and portion size. Lamb shank: this was ok in flavor but good in portion size. Daal makhani: this was flavorful. Paneer Makhani: in the entire portion there were only 4 small cubes of paneer and a couple of broken pieces. This was the most disappointing of all. I’ve had Indian food all over the U.S. and have never encountered this poor of a serving. Vegetable pakora: these were dry and average, used to be much better. Save your money, drive to Tyler or Shreveport for Indian food. This used to be a hidden gem, but...
