I was here on a Saturday night for a "date night" with my wife. I should have known things were gonna go bad from the outset, not many cars in the parking lot. When we went in we were told they were short handed and only had 1 cook and 1 wait staff, be 20-25 minute wait. i didn't mind as we had a 7 o'clock reservation and we got there at 6:20. I was also told they didn't have my reservation that i had made the previous day, but restaurant was not busy, only 6 people in it so we were seated right away. We had driven 62 miles to get here, we like trying new places for our "date nights." We waited 20 mins before waiter even came to take our drink order, we didn't even get water right away, we ordered our food right away too since we had plenty of time already to decide. Another 20 mins goes by and we finally get our drinks, my wife's coffee was so bad she couldn't drink it, she loves coffee! said it was in top ten worse cups of coffee she ever had. I ordered amaretto and oj and all i got was glass of oj. We still didn't get any waters. After about another 20 mins we finally got 2 glasses of water. Mind you there are now only 5 other people in place, 1 has their food and a table of 4 is waiting. We waited more, and there was no sign of us getting food, by now we were both fairly frustrated with how the evening was going. I finally got up and found the waiter and asked him if our food was even started, he said NO, chef hurt leg and couldn't cook and he was trying to get ahold of his manger to see what to do, mind you this place closes at 8:30 and it's now 7:58! We took our leave. Horrible experience! Worse customer service I've ever received! This place should not have been open for business or waiter should have told us what had happened so we could have gotten food at another place. My wife and i look forward to our dinner dates, in fact neither of us ate all day because we were looking forward to great food, that didn't happen. We drove over 60 miles to get ignored and receive horrible service, and NO FOOD. Maybe just a bad night for them but i think it goes way deeper. Will never return here or recommend...
Read moreWe stayed at the Holiday Inn for one night for an event in Marshfield. Since there was no continental breakfast with our hotel stay, we decided to order takeout from The Rivers and eat in our room. I looked up the menu online, before I called. When I started to place my order, I was told that the menu has changed and what I wanted to order is no longer available. I let the person know that this menu is on their own website, so maybe someone should make an update. I was told it was up to the upper management to do. I proceeded to order, looking at different things on the old menu and was told that pretty much everything I wanted was no longer available. I asked the person on phone what they do offer and ended up ordering ham, cheese & mushroom omelet with hashbrowns, and steak & egg breakfast plus coffee, with cream and sugar.
I asked how long will it take and the person said that they don't know because there is a new cook... I was ready to cancel my order and I regret not doing so. We agreed that the restaurant will call me once the food is ready.
It took 30 minutes on Sunday morning to get the food ready. My husband walked downstairs to pick it up. To my surprise, he came back with just one box. There was no omelet. They forgot half of our order! The coffee was black - no cream or sugar. The steak & egg breakfast was beyond grease. They asked me how I wanted my steak done (I requested medium), but the meat was so thin, that it was cooked to "well done". There was only one yolk, so I assume one egg. The menu states 2 eggs with this dish.
Why am I taking the time to write all of this? Because you can't make it up. Do yourself a favor and don't order takeout from The Rivers. The dine-in experience may be different, but for takeout this was my worst experience ever. Thankfully, we were not charged for the missing omelet, which makes me wonder if the person who took my order over the phone has ever done it before. Looks like half of the order was lost. Or maybe someone...
Read moreNot a great experience. We were seated immediately after arriving. The waitresses took the kids drink orders but not the adults. She brought the kids their drinks, but again never asked the adults. After about 10 minutes we flagged her down and let her know we were ready to order. We ordered our drinks with our food. The people next to us were upset because they were there before us and had not yet ordered (we were unaware of that and felt bad). The kids food came out quite quickly. My 3 year old ordered a kids cheeseburger. It came out on what looked like 2 pieces of cornbread. Turns out it was 2 pieces of extremely stale bread cut down to the size of his charred hockey puck burger. He didn't eat it! The waitresses brought the sodas for the others but not my old fashioned (it was a Friday fish fry in WI). She said mine would be right out. Needless to say it never did. Our food arrived so I went to the bar to ask since the bar was nearly empty. The bartender was trying to pour a draft beer for someone and dumped 4 glasses of foam before the person asked for a bottle instead. I asked if my old fashioned was almost ready and he said he didn't have an order for one. I reordered and he looked at me like he'd never heard of such a thing. He had to search the entire bar for whiskey (I didn't order a call brand) and couldn't find old fashioned mix. He ended up delivering it to the table for me (43 minutes after we arrived and 5 minutes after our food arrived). Only reason for 2 stars is because the fish was actually decent. However, we...
