Debbie's Soft Serve — Restaurant in Maryland

This seasonal sugar shack is a Smithsburg landmark. Like everyone we come here for the cool treats, especially on hot days but we have also ordered custom ice cream cakes for special occasions, which were great.

The soft serve is good, not too rich with a creamy consistency but what they really win on is the abundance of flavors to choose from! I mostly get their malted milk shakes or Hurricanes (equivalent to Dairy Queen Blizzards) but watch out because the friendly staff here does not skimp on added fixings! I swear I consumed at least two whole candy bars worth of butterfinger on my last order! And really when a large is just .80 cents more (12oz $5.20 vs.16oz $6) don't be surprised if your stomach turns like a hurricane from the sugar overload.

I wouldn’t recommend from our experience. We were in the area looking for ice cream and the idea of the flavored soft serves sounded good. The staff who waited on us was friendly. However we had 2 black raspberry soft serve cones that came out two completely different colors. One looked to be vanilla with an occasional swirl of raspberry. The other a dark purple. Debbie’s is local and we like to support local spots. The ice cream is good. But of the two times I’ve been there recently, they got our order wrong both times and weren’t willing to fix it because “it’s what’s on the receipt” (the girl who actually rang up the order got it wrong both times I guess?). Another time, they missed one of our toppings and I just paid the lady making them to add what they missed. It’s really expensive for staff who’s totally unconcerned. We’ll be choosing other ice...
