I got caught in the rain a while back so I popped in for a bite and a beer. The place is clean and service was fast and friendly, but I felt nickel and dimed. Pricing isn't clear because they do surge pricing - yes, like how uber has higher fares on holidays! The exact same burrito or burger costs you $3 to $5 more during weekend/busy hours. Everything tasted fine but it felt more like fast food in terms of quality, and the decor was soullessly corporate.
Applying surge pricing to every facet of American life sounds like a capitalist hellscape nightmare to live in. If you're looking for a great beer selection and unique burgers I recommend Quarry House just a couple blocks away. Heck, even Burgerfi is better if you just want a decent burger and fresh cut fries.
Pros: -Nice local beer selection with 24 drafts on tap (they do call themselves a bier garden after all!) -Clean restaurant and convenient walkable location -Fast service and friendly staff. Food served piping hot -Good vegetarian options with lots of variety -They have happy hour specials if you're looking for a light bite. -The slider and fries portion was a decent size and well cooked with tasty toppings and bun. I got the slider with American cheese and caramelized onions. -24/7 delivery as of 2024. This neighborhood desperately needs late night food options!
Cons: -Surge pricing on food gives me the ick, seems inherently unfair, and potentially predatory. At least uber drivers benefit from surge rates, they make more money working during those busy periods. Dynamic pricing in restaurants is just pure profit for owners and gouges customers; employees make the same hourly rate regardless. Hard pass. -The fries and tots are definitely frozen (I emailed corporate to ask. They said it's to "ensure quality" across locations.) The promotional images show fresh cut fries so I was expecting more. For frozen food this place is too expensive. Burgerfi has fresh cut fries for about the same price. -The meat itself was bland. It tastes like fast food quality. -If you order online for pick up, make sure to order from their website and not a 3rd party service to avoid even more upcharges. Also check at different times of day and days of the week to see about surge pricing. (I noticed the dynamic pricing on Grubhub...
Read moreGoing to have to pass on this place again. Was hungry around midnight, and wanted a good burrito 🌯. So I drove out and parked my car in the mall garage. I walked inside this dog haus place, first thing I noticed the menus didn’t have prices, red flag 🚩 #1. I’m hungry so I thought I’m just going to ask what they recommend. The lady says Cajun burrito. I look at the ingredients and I think to myself I don’t want chili beans in my burrito right now I’m going to stick with the breakfast burrito, plus the Cajun burrito might go terribly wrong. So I thought. I select the burrito there is some confusion between what I select and what I the lady thinks I want. I repeat myself 3 times, I get on the third time her English isn’t great. Ok why is she the front? I finally say something about I’ll do the Cajun another day but in Spanish and she gets it. I ask for a juice, because I don’t think this soda 🥤 would be the best with the breakfast burrito. they’re out. I’m forced to order a soda or beer. Wow. I order soda, whatever. The total floors me because I just bought 1 burrito with a drink. The total is $22. I’m trying to figure out how 1 burrito is $17? That’s why the prices aren’t on the menu. You would probably just walk away. lol. But wow. I think this better be the best tasting burrito I ever had in my life, for being around $20. I get home, I see the burrito, it’s kinda big, ok. I try it, nothing close to special, at all. Actually it has a weird taste. I’m pissed, because with every bite I actually decrease my enjoyment of the burrito. I realize it tastes nothing like a breakfast burrito 🌯, but some how has similar ingredients. I was expecting a semi decent burrito, having tried the best burritos in the country in San Diego, CA (which are the best in the world!), and I feel scammed. This mediocre burrito doesn’t deserve anything close to a $20 price point. I would say it’s worth $5, $7 at most. The audacity to charge $17 like they have the best tasting burritos in the region or something. It was my first and last time giving this place a try. I’m guess the burger and hot dogs...
Read moreSo like my brothers and I dragged ourselves into the restaurant and it seemed okay nothing special. Atmosphere was pleasant smelling. Some hints of lentils. We weren’t greeted or given menus or anything when we walked in so we just stood there for like a minute contemplating the realities of our meaningless lives. Then we saw the high tech glowing kiosks they have and we ordered drinks and food on those. We then sat down at a table and somehow the servers found us out of the crowd and took our order and got us our food like immediately which was insane. To be fair, we were the only white people within like a mile radius. Speaking of race, our server came up to us and asked for our ID’s since we were ordering beer. We gave her our ID’s and she didn’t accept my bros ID even though it’s not expired and he's 21. It says this on the ID card but our server wouldn’t look at it. When we asked why she didn’t accept the ID even though it is valid and he is 21, she said that they don’t accept vertical ID’s. She said something along the lines of it’s a Montgomery county Maryland thing and we wouldn’t know since we aren’t FROM these MD streets. Then she basically said he has to go to his states MVA to buy a new horizontal ID. Then bro asked to talk to the manager because like this literally makes no sense in any timeline. The manager said it’s a Maryland law that their bars cannot accept vertical ID’s but I googled it and both the manager and the server are wrong. Like literally call the cops and they will scan the ID and say he’s fine to drink. Maybe they didn’t have a scanner? My bro looks like a transgender Hassidic Jew so this could also be a racial thing. I digress. Anyway, I have been to countless bars and they have accepted my vertical ID when I point out the birth date. But for him, they didn’t accept it. I now have a horizontal ID so they accepted mine. We got refunds which was nice but it took kinda long. So yeah, I would not recommend this place to foreigners or mentally slow...
