Thai at Silver Spring is a decent Thai restaurant in downtown Silver Spring. The menu is extensive, and they have a lot of traditional Thai dishes, as well as a mix of not so traditional dishes for those with less sophisticated palates. I ordered the traditional Thai dish of “basil chicken” or “ka pow.” They have two version on the menu, one is the traditional Thai way of diced meat, and the other version is sliced for people who do not want minced chicken. Anyway, the basil chicken wasn’t bad, the portion was generous, maybe too generous, but the flavor was too sweet – and trust me on this, I lived in Thailand and know how this dish should taste. My partner’s dish was not a traditional Thai dish, also a huge portion, so at least you are getting a lot for your money. The papaya salad wasn’t bad, not the best, but I could eat it again. They also have an extensive alcohol menu, but PLOT TWIST, they do not currently have an alcohol license so not sure why they even handout the drink menu. In summary, not a bad place if you really have an itch for Thai food, but the Thai restaurants in Virginia are much better and more authentic. 3/5

If you’re a fan of drunken noodles, I recommend skipping the one at this place and suggest you order it from Charm instead. The drunken noodles were way too wet, it was sitting in a pool of sauce and completely drenched in it. That shouldn’t be the case at all. There should also be slightly charred pieces that gives this noodle dish a smoky flavor since it’s cooked in a wok. Charm has the best drunken noodles in downtown Silver Spring. The service here could’ve been better, our waitress had zero people skills — if you want friendly customer service, go to Lamoon. The only saving grace of this place is their interior design, but the booth seats were so worn from wear and tear that it was incredibly scratchy (especially if you’re wearing shorts during the summer). Overall, this place was just okay, nothing mind blowing by any means. The flavors are definitely catered towards Americans rather than Thais. They give you an option to choose how spicy you want your dish to be, on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the spiciest. We got a 4 and it was the most mild thing we’ve ever had. Everything was underwhelming in terms of flavor.

I've been here several times mostly because of co-workers or colleagues who preferred Thai At Silver Spring. I enjoy their lunch specials. A much better deal than coming here for a regular dinner. The lunch specials include a generous entrée, your choice of appetizer and a soda. For Thai Iced Tea, you will be charged extra (an entire drink price, instead of the difference between a soda and Thai Tea which is what I would expect). The food however is VERY inconsistent. While one visit may be a good day, some visits are drastically blander. I don't understand why this happens so often here. So I don't come here on my own, or else I will end up wasting my money. I think the dinner prices aren't worth the quality of food. So again stick to lunch if you must! Restaurant is on the second level and spacious.

2 People walk into an empty restaurant on a busy Saturday(today) and ordered food and sat down next to a window seat where one is a sofa chair because one of the persons is pregnant. A few minutes after they ordered and started their meal two more of their friends walk in with their two children and pulled up some chairs to sit with their friends. Moments later a server comes and rudely orders the 4 patrons and their 2 children sitting by the window to move from their seats because they have a policy that those seats are only for couples although the entire restaurant is empty. The patrons reluctantly oblige and move to another table the rude server selected for them in the empty restaurant. The patrons sat in their newly selected seats that was chosen by their rude server and proceeded to wait for the rude server to move their half eaten food to the new table. Moments later they call the server to ask where their food is that they were just eating and the rude server stated “I thought you were done” and goes to the back of the kitchen and brings the food back from God knows where expecting the patrons to continue eating the food as if multiple health codes were not violated within a 5 minute span including poor customer service. The manager or guy was then called to the table to discuss what happened and he apologizes without remedying the situation. The patrons paid for their half eaten food they never were given a chance to finish by the establishment and left the empty restaurant wondering “man, what horrible service that was. No wonder the restaurant is empty while every other restaurant on the block actually had patrons with a wait time of 20 plus minutes”

Suggestion 1: it’s a Thai restaurant in a very vibrant diverse community, so the server needs proper training on how to take orders without getting frustrated at patrons. Statements and questions like “what may I get you?” And “do you have any questions for me or how is your meal?” should be used very often when serving someone.

Suggestion 2: Being a female server you should understand when serving a family or persons with children, you try to be as accommodating as possible to meet their needs, especially when you have no customers in the restaurant.

Suggestion 3: Hire someone aka a manager who can remedy any issues instead of just apologizing. You should ask “is there anything I can do for you that will make your experience better etc..”

Running a restaurant is not like running an outdoor marketplace where you negotiate what kind of service you should give based on if you think you will get a tip or not. If you don’t feel like getting any business, all you have to do is flip the sign on your door to “closed” or you can allow it to close on its own by continuing to provide services such as the one the patrons experienced...

If you are Latino, or other ethnicity please don’t go to this restaurant for you good, the service was awful and I very upset because I go a couple times before and I can give them 5 star, but now the servers and the manager at the night are racist and they doesn’t care if are a lot people watching you she scream you. The history is me and someone who came from Colombia we going to the restaurant for eat and show silver spring to him, okay, he’s tourist, in Colombia and my country Venezuela our driver license are International for don’t bring with you the passport because are a really importante document and if you lose it you mess up, we we are speaking in Spanish when we walk in to the restaurant and the server I don’t know her name the only what I know she have glasses on, the server sit us in a table and we still speaking in Spanish, again he visit me from Colombia, I notice like the server doesn’t come on time she take care other tables and she take our table later, we order and we want to drink a beer, she ask for our ID’s well I’m show mine and my friend show his ID. She watch his ID and she start speaking in another language to the manager and she say I’m sorry we can accepted because the document are in Spanish obviously I get mad and I defend him and say I can translate for you and you only want to see the date (he’s 33 years old so he born in 1990) but she doesn’t want to see the license because is in Spanish we start argument with her and she’s doesn’t want to take his driver license i say you are racist for this and she doesn’t care about this (I’m taking to the manager btw, she’s small with glasses and she always have water...

I have to say that I am very disappointed because of my latest visit here tonight! Immediately after paying $40 for my meal and to-go order, and walking out of the establishment, one of the waitresses/hosts ran outside to me as I was about to walk down the big staircase in the town center and began frantically asking me if everything was okay because I opted to not leave a tip. Personally felt the service was okay since it was a slightly busy night with bigger parties currently seated and other patrons who walked in after me were waiting a while at the check-in desk to be acknowledged. I have definitely experienced better; but, the only reason I didn't tip was due to not having my main wallet; so, I didn't have enough cash and was using a pre-paid gift card. Despite her hawking me as I dug through my bag, I managed to find two dollars and gave it to her, and she had the nerve to ask me if I can put more on the card!

Safe to say in my almost 8 years of coming to this restaurant I have never felt so disrespected and disappointed in a restaurant's customer service in my life; and will definitely think really hard about ever coming here again! I work in customer service myself and have worked in restaurants and that experience tonight was absolutely unacceptable! Chasing a customer outside over a tip, especially considering I have been a longtime patron is beyond ridiculous no matter how though times are. I really didn't want to think it was a race thing but my goodness...

I'm only giving it 3 stars because the Pad See Ew & Spicy Breaded Shrimp has...
