This has been our favorite hibachi for years, up until now. Our last few experiences are leaving us wondering what happened. Our last dine in experience was way below the usual. We waited for 20 minutes before being seated at the sushi bar, even though there were about 8 spots open and there were only 2 of us. Then it took a good 20 minutes to get our drinks, and our waiter disappeared. Apparently he was not actually a waiter but a cook. Eventually we had to get another server to finally take our sushi order, even though we were at this point the only people at the sushi bar. We were patient, and trying to have a good time, but it was obvious the house was not staffed for the amount of business that was in there. I remember there used to be 3 sushi chefs back there regularly for a night not quite as busy, and they were making ONE chef do it all! The whole restaurant plus the bar.
Our last takeout order: They charged us for filet, but what we got was DEFINITELY NOT FILET. It was chewy and had tons of gristle and the flavor was not right. The salad and dressing was not fresh, but the rest of the food was okay.
I see some reviews on here that say this place is under new management. If that's the case, this new manager/owner needs to get their act together, stop pinching pennies, stop misrepresenting product, stop understaffing, and just DO THE THINGS THAT MADE THIS PLACE SUCCESSFUL IN THE FIRST PLACE. Don't ruin a good thing that has years of history, and practically a roadmap drawn out for you. Your customers will hold you accountable.
The staff themselves are usually very helpful and friendly, and the 3 stars is for that and what we know in the past has been great experiences. If we ever order from here again, I will update this review. This used to be a no-brainer go-to for us, but we will definitely be giving it some time and...
Read moreThe food and chef were good. Very entertaining which is the main appeal of eating in-house at a place like this. Little too much soy sauce (over salted rice and noodles) but great steak. The service was average - lousy greeting from a disheveled "host" who seemed like we were interrupting him from listening to whatever was playing on the earpod he was wearing. The other wait staff was fine. But the reason I wouldn't return is that the physical space is dirty, from the unkempt entryway to the really disgusting bathroom and the entire place needs a thorough cleaning. No one at the top seems to care about maintenance and simple cleanliness, which is worrisome at a food establishment - I can't even imagine what the kitchen looks like considering the front of the house. (Start by taking down and launder the soiled "curtain" to the bathrooms - remove whatever the broken thing duct taped to the wall in the women's room stall was, fix the toilet roll dispenser, clean up the sandy statue in the lobby and remove the trash from the...
Read moreWe went to Fuji in Edgewater last night for my daughter’s Birthday dinner. I was a little skeptical about going back to a Fuji restaurant because of the disaster experience we had at FUJI in GAMBRILLS. I don’t recommend the GAMBRILLS location and suggest you read about our experience there (2) months ago. Ok, the Edgewater location doesn’t make you decide soup or salad because both are included! The chef “Domingo” was great, very entertaining and didn’t skimp on our portions! The show he did is the best we’ve experienced to date. Our waitress was also very attentive refilled our drinks and brought out a complimentary desert for my daughter. The staff sang Happy Birthday along with us. The service was exemplary and they were tipped accordingly. We weren’t rushed out of the Edgewater location. I highly recommend the Edgewater location over GAMBRILLS. The service and attention we received (Edgewater) far exceeded the disaster Fuji in Gambrills who never bothered to even reach and contact me about our...
