M Thai Kitchen is one of those restaurants you wish you'd known about sooner. First off, it's run by a married couple, the husband being an American hero who served in Vietnam and the wife being the chef who manages the kitchen prep. They're also bringing two new student chefs in from Thailand next month, so they keep the culinary innovation fresh at heart.
From first bite you'll taste the most well balanced Thai food I've ever had in Maryland. They're hot on the tail of Thai X-ing in DC for authenticity. And how they source the ingredients is beyond me... Imagine the mortar and pestle used in their papaya salad preparation. Then follow your taste buds up with a bite of the chicken larb. (Larb Gai) Oh, it's so delicious.
You don't come for the decor here, which reminds me of most memorable restaurants in Thailand-- you come for the FOOD. And it's amazing. I wish I had time for the soup, but we decided on Massaman Curry and the Pad See Ew. Both are excellent, well balanced, and perfectly spiced. Texture is key, and with a squeeze of lime over the Pad See Ew, the chef nails it.
The only thing to watch out for is the Thai Iced Tea. It's heavy on the simple syrup; you'll have a sugar crash if you drink the whole thing. That aside, GET HERE!! It's well worth the drive, and would be a perfect first date spot if you want to impress a girl with your culinary selection and not be seen as trying to impress her with glitz and glam. Prices are reasonable and service is exceptional-- with the attention to detail you would expect from a prior military service member running the front of the...
Read moreI had the most disgusting experience with this establishment. On this day at 12:36 pm i called in to place my order and as i was explaining my order, this mannerless human being rudely interrupts me, i quickly respond and said "Do not speak to me in this manner". I had planned on addressing this calmly upon picking up my order. As a business owner i know how it is hiring staff that do not represent the Business in the way they'll want to be represented. Boy! Was i in for a rude awakening, this uncouth humanbeing in the red polo started raising her voice at me while i tried to explain to her that i was only trying to clarify my order. Then while still raising her voice at me, she stated she remembered me from a previous order - Aha! As a black woman, my choice to do business with any established is based on how they make me feel. My intention was to help correct the behavior and clarify any misunderstanding then pick up my food. It was at that time i realized that neither my presence nor my business was needed at this location. To the owner of the establishment, Thanapor Pornphinyawong, there's clearly a mistreatment of certain types of people at your establishment ( read the most recent review before mine). Is this what you support? Is this the caliber of staff that represents your restaurant?
This is a SHAME! A BIG SHAME and does not speak true to the Thailand culture...
Read moreI'm really sad to write this review. we moved to Edgewater in 2015 and even before moving in we had heard about M Thai Kitchen. it has been our go to for Thai food for years and has been a standard for great food in the area for much longer than we have lived here. 6 years ago I wrote a 5 star review, but recently the restaurant was taken over by new management and everything changed. We usually get several dishes for takeout and eat it over the course of several days and our last order was terrible. first, every one of our 5 dishes was completely different than it had been for years. the flavor and seasonings were all radically different. the pineapple fried rice and the pad thai were in much smaller containers, about 1/2 the size of the previous portions we would receive, and the price was the same. the garlic pork is now served with broccoli instead on a bed of lettuce and the sauce was bland. the Pad eggplant used to have a delicious bright yellow turmeric based sauce and now it was just a bland generic brown broth. pretty sure they are using generic purple eggplant instead of traditional thai green eggplant too. chicken pad kaprow used to have strong thai basil flavor. no more. all the veggies are different. I can no longer recommend this place. it used to be so good and a standard rotation in takeout for my family,...
