My first time visiting this neighborhood staple and cozy Japanese restaurant that serves an extensive menu of sushi and hibachi selections. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and a friendly atmosphere.

Our server was very familiar with the menu and ingredients. This was helpful for 2 in our party who were gluten free. He was friendly and accommodated separate checks for our party of 10 people.

Food: Was enjoyed by the majority of our group. The dishes we chose came out as they were prepared so whatever needed to be hot was served hot.

The sushi,I would say, is the hallmark of their menu. Made as ordered and given a hearty appreciation by those who had gluten free limitations. Other special requests were happily accommodated.

The only thing I can attest to, since I ordered it…a wish for a lighter batter to be used for their tempura. I know what I order will have been deep fried but when the batter is thick, it becomes heavy and greasier from the oil it was cooked in. There were plentiful amounts of shrimp with sliced vegetables, I had leftovers to bring home.

We enjoyed our gathering. The space is small with dark wood accents but kept clean and quiet enough to carry non-competing conversations with our group. The prices were pretty reasonable and the food was enjoyed, especially those who had diet restrictions.

The food was not fresh at all. The chicken look like that frozen chicken you see on some salads at the frozen section with a whole lot of teriyaki sauce. The service was very bad the waitress seemed irritated she threw the menu on the table and just said here and walked away no hello no hi nothing. We looked at each other but since my husband was very hungry we decided to still give it a chance. She came back to get our orderes even my seven year old said " she doesn't look happy mommy". I got a couple of sushi rolls not impressed at ALL I am a sushi addict. The kids got shrimp noodle which they refuse to eat after three bites that's with me pushing them to give it a try. My oldest and my husband had the teriyaki chicken n shrimp the chicken is that frozen stuff you see in some frozen section you can't identify with a whole lot if sauce they need chef Ramsey's help stat. Once again the service I never felt like am bothering ppl just to order food they were not even busy they had two other customers beside us soooo we couldn't understand why the waitress seemed irritated. Absolutely Terrible! I will never go back here! My cousin and I went to katana, the waitress showed us our seats, never saying a word, she only gave us our menus, ordered our drinks and meals and didn't return until we were ready to pay, the entire time there were employees sweeping and mopping around us while we were trying to enjoy our meal. When the check came we paid, but didn't leave a tip,which the waitress didn't deserve for her poor service. Walking to the door the manager stops us and commands to know why we didn't leave a tip, in front of all the other customers and employees!! I was beyond disgusted and insulted it was completely unprofessional! I was so shocked I couldn't even respond and let him know how rude it was of him. The worst part was the manager nor anyone else thanked us for dining there! Katana lost several customers because of this and I will be making a complaint to the superior of this restaurant.
