I frequently visit the bagel bakery when I'm visiting family only because they are the only bagel shop close by. I went in on Sunday 1/1/2017 and was pleasantly surprised to see they had completely switched over to new management and renovations appeared to be finished. I ordered 4 bagel sandwiches which to my surprise when I got home 2 of them were prepared wrong. We were all starving so we just ate them instead of driving 15 minutes to get them fixed. So no big deal figured it was New Year's Day and I'm sure the teenagers that were working didn't want to be there. So decided to give it another shot the next day and this is were everything went down hill. I walked in and the same young kids were working which I admire our youth getting out in the workplace however there should be an adult on duty managing the establishment and making sure of customer satisfaction. So here we go I order a bacon egg and cheese for my friend I asked for it scooped, double toasted with extra bacon. Pretty simple especially since there were maybe two other customers inside. I then ordered myself the Monday special. Which was posted right on the board a oven roasted turkey sandwich with applewood smoked bacon cheddar cheese tomato BBQ sauce and mayo on some sort of onion roll and came with one side I ordered and said just hold the BBQ and tomato and opted to have it on white bread. I then wait a short time and my food came out and I asked before leaving if the sandwich was scooped and extra toasted because they had failed to do so the day before and the young boy said yes. So I get home my friend opens her sandwich and once again not scooped not toasted at all and one piece of bacon. So being very upset that 2 days in a row a simple thing went wrong so I drive back up there and they gladly remade the sandwich and finally got it right and refunded me the money which allowed me to walk out saying I would come back. So I get back home and the bagel was spot on but I had failed to check my sandwich figuring how could they mess up a daily special oh boy did they. It was turkey, tomato, onion, and about a gallon of mayonnaise and that's it. Absolute worst sandwich ever and it was $10 and was never even asked what side I wanted. As someone who has worked in the industry and have family members who work and manage restaurants within the same little strip center I solely blame this on management. I wouldn't blame it on clueless teenagers because that's expected but with proper training and a manager over 18 on duty could go a long way. As for now I will not be returning to this place and will not recommend to the many people I know in this small town. It all starts from the top and whoever is at the top is setting this place up for fast failure. I normally don't read or write reviews because I believe everyone has bad days and no one is perfect but after two days in a row it will be very hard for me to try this place again. I hear the bagels down the street at Panera are much better so I think I will go there next. Good luck with the...
Read moreDisappointed by the way I was treated today. I went to the bakery a few days ago (on Tuesday) and was helped by a new employee. The new employee mistakenly gave me a different item than I asked for (I also ordered many other items that were correct) and I didn't realize it until I arrived at my home. I returned today (Sunday) to get it sorted out. The employee I interacted with today replaced the item that I was supposed to receive on Tuesday but he also scolded/yelled at me because I did not call or come to the store earlier.
I understand that it's best to get these issues fixed sooner rather than later but I had an incredibly busy week. I was busy and exhausted all week and the earliest I could return to the bakery was on the weekend. It didn't occur to me to call them since they wouldn't be able to fix the issue unless I went in person.
The employee I interacted with today made me feel bad as if I had done something wrong. But it's not wrong for me to expect that the business will correct their mistake, even if I wasn't able to deal with it as quickly as they would have wanted me to. I don't deserve to be scolded like a naughty schoolgirl. No one even apologized to me for the fact that they messed up my order and inconvenienced me.
I was looking forward to finally getting the item I wanted but now I've lost my appetite. When I look at the desserts I bought, I feel embarrassed and sad. I'm new to the area and have been to the bakery a few times and spent a lot of money each time. I would have likely been a frequent customer over the upcoming years. The employees were more interested in making me feel bad than they were in gaining a loyal customer for years to come. This experience has ruined the joy of the place for me. I don't think I will return to this...
Read moreI want to acknowledge not only the great food but most importantly the kindness and care of the owner. I since working in the area have been going for the delicious bagels. Yesterday morning I went in to get my breakfast and I noticed an older women just sitting looking at the morning rush. She looked like she needed someone to show her a kindness, so I went up to her and asked her if I could treat her. When I got back to the counter to put her order, the manager asked if what I was getting was for her. Without hesitation he said he would cover her meal and drink. I tried to refuse and wanted to still support his business even more because of that. I still got a drink for the sweet lady though and will definitely be frequenting even more now. The first time I visited they had forgotten to put in my cream cheese because I had quite the big order, but he quickly corrected it and threw in two yummy donuts. This care for your customers is not often seen. This is truly a great place with a wonderful owner and staff. If you were ever considering trying Royal Bagel Bakery in Olney definitely don’t...
