Read moreThis place is an interesting mix of food...classic American burgers, fries and shakes, to Persian/Indian style food and flavors. I've gone 3 times. The first was to try a burger, fries and onion rings. which were OK -- a lot like Five Guys with the abundant fries. The onion rings were/are awesome. I used to go to a Z Burger in VA, so I was happy to see one come to Olney.
However...the other side that is Maman Joon Kabob: OMG! I've been getting takeout of their veggie samosas which are huge stuffed crunchy triangular pastries with a nice mix of peas, potatoes and spices. They also have chicken and other meat samosas. I've gotten them unheated and warmed them in my air fryer at home. I have also had them warmed. If you want them unheated, make sure you tell them when you're ordering. Also make sure you're getting enough of the sauces as they sometimes fall short of giving you enough. (I like the red sauce but also like Trader Joe's mango chutney which I keep at home.) Remember, if it's too spicy and your mouth is burning, drink milk or have a dab of yogurt...or...they have some yogurt based salad sides which would cool the fire.
Last week I tried the Butter Chicken with a large helping of the most tender rice. WOW! Such fantastic flavor that my tastebuds were crying of happiness! It wasn't spicy-hot, so those who don't like the heat can enjoy this dish. I can't wait to have it again. So, so good! A friend said they tried the chicken kabobs and really liked them. I plan on making my way through Maman Joon's menu.
The staff are nice and the place looks clean. It is getting busier which I'm happy to see, so parking can be a bit tough so just be patient. I hope they are here to stay for...
Read moreJust... WOW! And I mean, WOW! This was hands down the most incredible Persian meal I've ever had. Having explored nearly every Persian restaurant in the area—including the renowned Shamshiry and Amoo's in Northern Virginia, both of which are excellent—I can confidently say this place stands in a league of its own. Frankly, how Moby Dick's, located just around the corner from Maman Joon, is still in business is beyond me.
Every dish we tried was perfection. The koobideh, chenjeh, joojeh, and salmon were all unbelievably moist, bursting with flavor, and perfectly seasoned. Each bite was a testament to the artistry and care put into their preparation.
What truly set this experience apart was the unexpected gem: the Pakistani chickpea dish served on the side. It was, without a doubt, the best version of this dish I've ever tasted. There's a touching story behind it as well—a Pakistani chef who once worked here introduced the recipe. His innovation and passion made such an impact that even after his passing a year ago, the restaurant continues to serve this dish in his honor. It’s a beautiful tribute, and the flavors reflect the love and respect they have for his creation.
What an incredible find! This place is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates outstanding Persian cuisine—and a little something extra that makes it truly...
