Shipley Do-Nuts — Restaurant in Maryland

We just gave them a try for the first time we weren't impressed. Very Unorganized, Staff was Confused and not Trained, not Excepting the Rewards Program. Yes they are better than DD's, no way near as good as The Donut Shack in Severna Park, or as Fresh and as Tasty as the Krispy Kreme Donuts in Crofton. We won't be purchasing Donuts here anymore. Over priced for the quality of the Donuts we received. $27 for a dozen Donuts and 2 Beverages. I will also note that the Coffee was tasteless, it had no flavor. I also want to note that the Donuts are all different sizes, not fresh, and not warm. The young staffing, the 30 employees, I counted working, standing, watching, or observing behind the counter. Were looking confused and or being trained by another employee. All of this staffing and they had both drive thru lanes closed. Everyone was having to line up to go inside to place their order. I gave 3 Stars 1🌟 for Taste 1🌟 for the two male teenagers who took our order, they were both struggling yet trying to help one another and were very polite, kind, friendly and professional. It appeared to be a Manager or Owner standing off to the side wearing jeans and a sweatshirt he stood out because everyone else was in uniform, he was observing. 1🌟 for Staffing it was great to see all of the young people being employed and helping each other working together in teams. There was 2 young females in the back putting Donuts on trays and supporting those at the front counter, working with all of the walk in customers. These young ladies were trying so hard to keep up with the demands. Been wanting to come here since it's delayed opening. Got there at 8:15am Sunday morning to a line almost out the door; however we didn't wait more than 10-15 minutes.

When we got to the register, there was only 4 or 5 donuts to select from, and when I asked when there would be more of a selection, the register employee said around 9am is when they restock the variety. So the store and its employees are generally busy.

After eating these donuts, they were better than average, nothing to write home about, better than Dunkin and close to a Krispy Kreme. Would've made me happier to get my favorite donuts, but the ones they had available were good.

One thing I found kind of interesting is that there are only 3 POS (point of sale) systems in the shop, including the drive-through. It would be a good idea by the establishment to have someone walking around with a POS system to accommodate the number of customers showing up. They have enough employees as I counted over 10, so I was surprised this issue wasn't ironed out before opening.

As a local that has seen this property flip numerous times over the years, I really want this one to succeed.

UPDATED This place has really hit its stride since first opening and I have plussed up my rating. They have upgraded the counter staff with competent quick hustlers. The dudes with bizarre hairstyles and dangling earrings and other clueless characters seem to be gone from the counter. The selection of fresh donuts in stock is much better with a broader range of options to choose from. And the lines now move significantly faster. Kudos to management and counter staff for a great experience. ---------- Original review I tried going to this new place a few times before I was successful in finding a time when they were (a) open and (b) not incredibly busy. Even with only two other customers in the store before me in the store it was more than a five minute wait. It was all pretty disorganized, and the staff were nice enough, but seemed clueless and one speed (no hustle). The food here is nothing special. Filled donuts are glazed not sugared like DD, and not a plain cake donut available. YMMV but I agree with others who say there are better options around. Heck, even 7-11 gives me a better experience and quality than this place. Maybe they'll get their act together and I'll give them another try with different choices off of the menu, but that won't be...
