A Flavorful Oasis in the South
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Being a Jamaican businessman on a tight schedule, I had limited time to satisfy my hunger during lunch. Southern Blues not only met, but exceeded my expectations. This hidden gem managed to capture the essence of Southern cuisine while offering an incredibly efficient dining experience.
From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere instantly put me at ease. The friendly staff greeted me with a smile and helped me make a swift choice from their diverse menu. As a picky eater, I was worried about finding something that resonated with my taste buds, but the variety they offer proved to be a pleasant surprise.
I opted for the "Beef Ribs Dinner" a dish that showcased an array of classic Southern favorites. The ribs had a crispy exterior and was incredibly juicy inside, reminding me of the flavors from back home. The macaroni and cheese was the epitome of comfort food, and the collard greens were cooked to perfection, striking that delicate balance between tenderness and flavor.
Time was of the essence, and I was pleasantly surprised at how efficiently the team at Southern Blues managed to get my meal ready. They acknowledged the importance of my schedule and ensured that I left with a satisfied stomach and a smile on my face.
Being a Jamaican who appreciates bold flavors, I was impressed by the authenticity and attention to detail that Southern Blues brings to their dishes. They managed to transport me to a culinary journey that paralleled my own cultural experiences while embracing the soulful Southern traditions.
I wholeheartedly recommend Southern Blues, not just for their mouthwatering offerings, but for their commitment to creating an exceptional dining experience that respects the time constraints of busy individuals like myself. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this restaurant is an excellent choice to experience Southern hospitality and flavors that resonate with diverse palates.
Kudos to the team at Southern Blues for curating such a delightful culinary...
Read moreAh man, these young men and women are knocking it out of the park at Southern Blues on Harford Road!
They keep it clean, spotless over there. Floors, tables, glass trash are all kept in great shape. They must sweep and mop every few minutes. You could eat off of the floors at this place, you could, not me. I don't know where some of the customers have been with their shoes.
All of the workers look neat and clean. They are pleasant, professional, courteous and helpful.
The food is great. The fried chicken has a nice golden coating coating, like the grease has just been changed. They keep it under a heat lamp and you might think that it would be dry, no. Their chicken is piping hot, whatever that means. You will burn your mouth if you don't let it cool down and it is so, so juicy.
The fried pork chops are very tender and very juicy, the best that I have experienced at a restaurant in a long time.
The fried fish looks pretty good.
I know all this fried food is not good for me. My doctor told me to lay off of the fried food - so I stopped seeing my doctor. No pressure now.
The best part, they have short ribs. These hard to find beefy treasures are what I crave, what I seek. Many restaurants choose not to invest in them.
Southern Blues offers them with barbeque sauce or brown gravy. The ribs are the flanken style but boneless. I don't think the gravy is homemade but that's alright.
They offer chicken four or five ways, chops two or three and a variety of fish. They pretty good cabbage, greens and other sides. They have a great variety of menu items.
Southern Blues gets it right in so many ways. I know this review was verbose and I could say more, they deserve it. It's best though if you would just get there and try or for yourself. If you see me there, say hi and buy me a piece...
Read moreTypically this place is a last resort when I REALLY want soul food. Now I am extremely grossed after finding what appears to be a bug in my food. The place also has a very boring menu. They don’t offer much variety and customer service is on a decline. It’s great to give job opportunities but WHY aren’t they teaching the boys AND the manager guy with dreads is not the friendliest in the least. Uniform would also be nice because this place is going downhill. It used to be nice when the owner made appearances and greeted his guests in the lobby now it’s just like a group of mostly grumpy men that look and act like they dread dealing with the public. Back to the uniform comment...the owner makes more than enough money to get them fellas looking and acting professional. If the owner can afford to have his child drive a luxury SUV then put a little money into the crew and have training on professional image. Please teach the manager with dreads how to be more convincing with business acumen and customer service because he seems awfully transparent to me. He might meet Southern Blues standard of excellence but certainly not my standard by any stretch of the imagination. He comes across as the type that always trying to run game on females. I don’t want to be so harsh honestly I don’t but I am quite upset finding what appears to be a bug in my food so I am telling it all today!! This restaurant has potential but please get them fellas focused and understanding hygienic food handling! You have the reigister just inches from your collard greens and the fellas also need to learn how to move the line along instead of having small talk with crew. Just try smiling and understanding you have to earn the business rather than have a sense of entitlement to good reviews...
