New Year's Day is a big day for people to go out and have dinner before nightly shennanigans.
My friends are convinced that there's no good sushi or ramen in Silver Springs/the area. We're all from NY so we have a lot of options usually, and it has made them a little spoiled. I was FINALLY able to convince them to go here for NYE and I was so excited to prove them wrong... only I couldn't. And that's because of management and staff.
At 12PM NYE my frie10nds and I called to make a reservation slash find out if they'd be open early night - 8PM dinner, out by maybe 9 or 9:30 becuase it's ramen, right? Places don't close until maybe 10 in order to utilize and rake in the money on such a night when no one wants to cook.
First, we explained we wanted to know if it'd be open and or we can make a reservation. We were told "We expect to clsoe early But I don't know". And that was it. No apology for not knowing or not being able to tell us. We were not asked to leave a name and they would let us know, yes or no, when they found out - we were not asked to leave a name and they'd tell us definitely no when they knew - we were not given ANY type of customer service to let us know we were welcome to come tonight, that they were taking responsibility and would let us know as paying customers "this is the deal." We were told I don't know and then the line went silent as they waited for us to say something. So we asked, "well, will you know soon? We can call back."
So already my friends are like what the heck, you said this would be good. Convinced them to keep faith. They said they'd know in an hour or so (after basically pulling teeth and suggesting it FOR them -us: hey, what if we call back in an hour? Will you know? them: we don't know. Us: oh. well, maybe by 4 will you know? them: we don't know. We think we will close around 7, we are waiting for our manager to let us know. He should call in an hour. Us: can we leave our name and number, and you can call when find out? Them: sure. whatever. (we are pretty sure, based on the tone, they didn't take the number down).)
At 3PM we called again - regardless, they still didn't know. Still no word. Still pretty sure they were going to be closing around 7. Still no other suggestion, apology, or assuring us they'd let us know. This time, they didn't even say they should know in an hour or so. They seemed like they really did not want us to come in, though.
Deflated, we went somewhere else. At 9PM we called them and they were still open, as well. So my friends and I were very angry, actually, that they were unhelpful in this matter. We honestly would have loved to have some ramen before the night we had, but we couldn't because they weren't able to help us at all - whether with a phone call to tell us they were open, closing early,...
Read moreThis has quicky become a favorite with my friends and I. Our absolute favorite has been the lobster lasagna, in fact, it's a little too good that it's ruined wanting any other sushi! It is a roll filled with avocado, cucumber and masago, and topped with a creamy grilled lobster and crayfish meat that makes your mouth water.
The fried gyoza was super crispy, hot and comes with 5 in total. It comes with ponzu sauce which fits it perfectly. We loved it.
As for the rolls. The golden dragon roll was tasty but didn't have avocado on some and some on the others. They also didn't put equal amounts of eel sauce on it so it was on some pieces but not others.
The Osaka cheeseburger roll was stated that it had spicy teriyaki on top, but what it actually had was spicy bulgogi inside of it. It was a huge portion and about 2 inches wide. The spicy bulgogi is wrapped in American cheese and then rice with seaweed paper and then to top it off it has another layer of tempura on the outside. I'm not sure if it's baked or fried, but it has to be one of those.
The crispy shrimp vs sweet crab roll had a nice shrimp and crab flavor but I think it was lacking flavor so we added some eel sauce or ponzu to it which elevated the flavors. The tempura shrimp is on the inside with sweet crab on top. The roll had a lot of extra rice though and could use something else to stuff in it. But for $15 I wouldn't get it again.
The portions are amazing! But I've found discrepancies after visiting there a few times. Recently my lunch experience has me a bit disappointed as most of the rolls were lacking the normal amount of avocado. The rolls either had half portions in the roll or just missing avocado from the top, with half of the roll having avocado on it.
As for the service, it can be a bit confusing at times as some of the servers can not understand, but in the end it all worked out. The service is also very slow and they rarely refill your drinks. The times I have been there, there are only two servers.
As for seating, there are booths that only fit 4 people. And a seating area in the front for a larger group if you are lucky enough to get that seating.
If you are driving you will have to park in a parking lot near by, I recommend the one by Dave & Busters. I don't know how handicap accessible it is as the walkway is pretty narrow, though it has other seating in the front if...
Read moreLet me first say this: THE SERVERS ARE AMAZING PEOPLE and I have always had a pleasant time because of them. NOW the reason for the 2 star review
TLDR: THE MANAGER NEEDS TO BE TAUGHT HOW TO COMMUNICATE AND NEEDS TO TAKE LESSONS ON CUSTOMER SKILLS
I came to have lunch here and forgot my wallet. I called several times in order to speak with someone (the line was super busy and it took a couple of trys. Understandable) but I eventually was able to speak with the manager (he's always in the front with a different color shirt from the servers) When asked if someone had turned in a black wallet he was super rude about it. Only stated that he was ""busy"" n he couldn't be bothered. I called a second time and asked if he could look under the table for us, His only response was ''ma'am, I have customers right now. You can come look for it yourself" in a rude tone. OK w.e I just wanted an update while I was on my way and he was super rude. I had to suggest he take down my number just in case my wallet was turned in. He just seemed bothered to even try and help.
When I get to the restaurant I asked if my wallet had been turned in. Again he was rude and told me "to look for it myself" I went over the table and I asked the family sitting there if they would kindly let me take a quick look. Luckily, the family was nice. While looking, the server who was assigned to my table earlier saw and recognized me, and asked if I was looking for my wallet. She then pointed to another server who had put it in the front.
WHOLE TIME THE WALLET WAS NEXT TO THE RUDE MANAGER!!! THE SPACE IS SUPER SMALL AND IT WAS IN PLAIN SIGHT. THIS COULD HAVE BE RESOLVED IF HE HAD PUT IN A SMALL EFFORT TO ASK THE SERVERS. He made an already stressful situation even more stressful. I was not asking for much.
I'm just mad that he was so rude and not understanding. I wasn't yelling or being rude. I don't do confrontations. But I'm super disappointed since Sushi Jin had been our TO go place since they open. They really need to do something bout...
