The Honey Baked Ham Company — Restaurant in Maryland

I am extremely disappointed in the service I received from this company this last holiday season. Honey baked ham has been a staple in our household for the last 10 years. Over the years we’ve picked up on tips and tricks to ensure we have a smooth experience.

This year was by far the worst experience and I will not be ordering from the company again. I specifically picked up at the Gaithersburg, MD location.

Knowing how busy this location gets during the holidays we ordered and prepaid a month in advance and set up a pick date and time for Wednesday 11/27 at 10am.

I took my lunch break early and anticipated waiting about 15 minutes (max) to pick up my pre order.

When I arrived at the location the line was out the door. There were no signs for pre orders and I couldn’t imagine customers who prepaid and pre ordered would have to wait in a line just to enter the facility.

When I opened the door to see if there were any signs for pre orders the employee working the door yelled at me to get in line. I asked her if I needed to wait in line if I pre ordered she said yes, everyone has to wait in line.

I then proceeded to wait 30 minutes to be let inside. Once inside there was another line I waited in to pick up my order. This took 20 minutes.

By the time I got to the cashier, they were out of the size I ordered and asked if I was okay with a larger ham. I said yes, if that’s all they had.

I thanked them and left. Today I checked my credit card statement and they charged me an extra $30 for the ham. Had I known they would have charged me extra I would have not agreed to it. They had my credit card on file from the pre order and I never consented to the up charge.

A holiday requirement! A honeybaked ham is the best! Depending on how many people we get for the holidays, a bone-in quarter ham or a half boneless ham is a must.

We have been getting our holiday hams here for over a decade. They do a fantastic job of managing the pick up during the holidays. In addition, always great to pick up their barbecue baby back ribs. Surprisingly they are outstanding. Great sides includes their double cheddar macaroni and cheese and green bean casserole. A jar of their Hickory honey mustard is a must. Goes great on the leftovers. You can also pick up desserts which include the apple caramel walnut pie, and the triple chocolate cake. We have had both and they are outstanding.

I cannot stress how important it is during the holidays to place a reservation. Do it early and try to avoid the pick up days closest to the holidays. I always get mine a day or two before the busiest times, because they store so well in the fridge.

I have yet to just stop by here for lunch, but I really should. Until then, I will continue my yearly pilgrimage to this...

Portion size was lacking. This is the first time I have been disappointed by The Honey Baked Ham. The sandwich was delicious as usual, as was the broccoli bacon salad. However, the croissant they served was the smallest I've ever seen! Also, the broccoli bacon salad came in a container that was at most about 4 adult bites. I took a picture of 1/2 of the sandwich along with the broccoli container and a standard size plastic fork to provide perspective. I'm not sure if all HB ham stores have changed or just this one, but I seriously felt like I paid around $10 for a kids meal (that didn't come with a drink!). I will look around for another HB ham store and try that, I don't think we will be coming to this one. The staff here were very friendly and again, the food tasted great, the portion size was just too small. Seriously, look at that half a sandwich next to a regular size...
