I usually order from Paisano's, since it's close and I can just pick up my order. Last night I decided to try Vocelli's in Germantown, MD, and it was a strange and disappointing experience.
First, their online menu for pizzas is confusing. They give prices, but don't tell you the size. It's not until you start placing your order that your realize the menu prices are for their small 10" pizza. I ordered the Spring Veggie, and it was not good. I don't know if it was the cheese, or too many vegetables, but I just didn't find it appetizing at all. But everyone has different tastes, so I could write this off as my mistake.
However, I also ordered a Tuscan grilled chicken salad, and saved that for lunch today. When I opened the salad, it was a bad joke. Here is their menu description for their Tuscan grilled chicken salad:
"Grilled chicken with fresh greens, red onions, green peppers, black olives & tomatoes, Sprinkled with mozzarella, cheddar & pecorino romano cheeses."
What I got was a few pieces of chicken and lots of lettuce - no greens, no onions, no peppers, no olives, no tomatoes, no cheeses. The dressing was a small packet of Ken's Italian dressing. I paid $6.99 for basically a quarter head of lettuce.
Now for the strange part. On the website, they make a big deal about their no contact delivery. Sounds good. So, I dutifully gave all my credit card info with my online order, and selected that the delivery person could just leave it at the door. When the delivery came, not so much. Instead of just knocking once and leaving the food, the delivery guy kept knocking. So I answer the door, and he hands me the box with an upside down receipt. "You sign, you sign, no touch, no touch." All I could gather was he wanted me to sign the back of the receipt without touching it. I think. I don't know. I'm not sure what signing the back of a receipt means, legal-wise. It was the most bizarre delivery experience I have had.
Edited to add: I saw the response from the establishment owner. He or she is delusional. Why on earth would I spend more money on a franchise that not only serves bad food, not even living up to their own menu, but employs strange and scary...
Read moreThis is my favorite place around this area to get pizza. The crust is the perfect thickness for my preference, the pizza is cooked to my preference of "doneness", and the flavor is delicious. I usually get the white garlic pizza, as I prefer that to red sauce pizzas. I'm particular about my pizza, and this place lives up to my personal standards and preferences.
The vocellii rolls are excellent! I've had only the spinach mushroom ones and love them, but I also plan to try the garlic ones. The crispness to which these rolls are cooked is again perfect for my preference. They aren't hard, but they aren't soggy either. They're perfectly cooked in my opinion.
The bone-in BBQ wings are excellent. I ordered boneless BBQ wings recently and wasn't as excited about these because they were served as fried chicken tenders and a side of BBQ sauce. I mixed the sauce and the tenders together once I got home and they were enjoyable, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I know to get the bone-in wings for myself because I prefer those over the boneless.
As mentioned, this is my favorite place and I...
Read moreAfter ordering, I was unsatisfied when I received my food. Customer service was my biggest issue. I ordered a stromboli with green peppers and onions. A stromboli come standard with green peppers onions and mushrooms but I requested that they leave the mushrooms off. Vocelli's doesn't cook the veggies before adding the mixture in they're stromboli dough. This resulted in uncooked veggies inside of a stromboli. Once I received my food I called Vocelli immediately to have them correct it however their associated refuse to do anything to rectify the situation because "it's their recipe not to cook the vegetables." After paying GrubHub fees and a tip before receiving my food I had to get out of my bed and drive down to the store in order for them to rectify the situation. Upon arrival the associate was very combative. Eventually she agreed to remake my Stromboli by pre-cooking...
