Nickel and dime you on extras. Staff and management not friendly on our visit.
Update.... I have had a long history with Windy City Grill since its opening years ago, and it was not a pleasant one. Poor service, subpar food, and unreasonable prices were the norm back then. Consequently, I stayed away from the restaurant for quite some time. However, about a year ago, I decided to give them another chance, and to my surprise, things had drastically changed for the better.
During my return visit, I received excellent service, noticed a significant improvement in the quality and variety of the food, and although the prices were still on the high side, the overall experience had become much more enjoyable. With several subsequent positive visits, Windy City Grill gradually became one of our go-to spots for dining out.
However, my recent visit on July 14, 2023, left me with mixed feelings. We arrived at the restaurant and were promptly seated. However, after waiting for 10-15 minutes, no one came to take our drink order or even acknowledge our presence. Eventually, a gentleman approached our table and asked if we had been helped. When we responded negatively, he started blaming the hostess and promised to assist us shortly. Instead, he proceeded to the kitchen and then attended to other tables, leaving us unattended once again.
Thankfully, another waitress noticed our situation and offered her help. She promptly took our order and flawlessly managed the rest of our meal. I regret not getting her name to commend her in this review. Her attentiveness and awareness allowed us to make it to the movie on time.
While this recent experience raised concerns that Windy City Grill might be slipping back into its old ways, I hope it was just an off night. The restaurant has shown significant improvements in the past, and I sincerely hope they maintain their positive trajectory. With a reliable and attentive staff, along with the improved food quality and selection, Windy City Grill has the potential to continue being a great dining option...
Read moreVery Disappointing!! Now I see why they have been on Local Flavor and in the Mint for over a year now. Not authentic Chicago food at all so if your a Chicagoan and looking for a tate of home this is NOT the place for you. The Italian beef has nothing Italian anout it. Absolutely NO FLAVOR should say "dry roast beef" The patty melt was filling but dry just OK. Now to touch on the decor recent Chicago theme and then you get smacked in the face with a Packers Flag anyone from Chicago knows Pakers are the enemy lol no really though. We asked why it was there and they said because of the onwers parent who passed was a fan so it was a tribute type thing. As regards to the authenticity again we also were told the owners were from McHenry which is an hour and half away from Chicago so not an actual Chicagoan. Hense the watered down food. But to top the one and only visit off the mrg was terrible had an attitude from the moment we spoke to her again another reason they're not very busy when your staff is not customer friendly. I met a friend there for late lunch after pur soccer game and we paid separately however we both had the local flavor deal and were going to use it. The manger with the attitude Kim tried to say we could not use them at the same table however the certificate states " one per visit" not per person nor per table. Besides the fact neither of us wanted to come back and keep our certificate. That was extremely frustrating as a paying customer to have to argue with a manager over tje wording they chose to use on their certificate and try and change once in the establishment. I definitely don't recommend this restaurant/bar to anyone but especially to people from the Chicago land area looking of a taste from home. You won't find it here. You'll just get a server who forgets lemons after asking 4 times literally (4) dry bland food and a resting face manager with an attitude. Hopefully this reciew saves some people...
Read moreWe have been going to WCG for quite a few years. The food, service and atmosphere have always been great. Having spent many years in Chicago, I specifically enjoyed the Chicago style pizza prepared, cooked and cut in Chicago fashion. The Halas burger is a favorite as well and we love the onion rings. The staff has always treated us well. Until recently most of the food other than pizza was served in a plastic basket with a waxed paper under the food. Now food is served in a metal tray with no waxed paper. The trays have been wet at times and do not look clean. It presents a very cold and careless presentation. You could at least put a piece of waxed paper down. Our biggest complaint is the pizza. The past two times the amount of the toppings have been significantly reduced. We had a sausage pizza and there were several pieces that had no sausage on them. You also stopped cutting it is squares with no warning. When we asked why, they answer was customers prefer it that way. I know it's strange but this is a big deal for a Chicago style pizza. If you're going to claim to be a Chicago style restaurant then deliver like one. If you want to cut it as a pie then allow customers to ask for it that way, but the standard should be Chicago style. We spoke with the manager at the times we were there and over the phone after a take out, but nothing has changed. If these changes were a result of a change in ownership, in my opinion you made a significant error in your changes. If there hasn't been a change in ownership, what are you possibly thinking? When you pay almost $20 for a pizza and $15 for a burger you have priced and delivered yourselves out of a three...
