I’ve been going here for donuts for the past year and I love it. When they started a partnership with local businesses to do grocery pickups in light of COVID, I was all about it. The items were definitely very expensive, but I wanted to support local businesses. Unfortunately, I had a negative experience today. I ordered my items on Wednesday for a Saturday morning pickup. After pick up, I discovered one of the items we ordered was wrong. I called to let them know, and they told me they would process a refund but that I needed to bring back the wrong item (a spinach breakfast casserole). On my way back (mind you I had to return to the store due to their mistake) they called me a second time to make sure i was bringing back the wrong item before they would give me a refund. Even better, it turns out they never had what I ordered in the first place. Must be they were hoping I would not notice? Anyways, when I got to the store, I told the woman working that I was disappointed by the multiple calls and the mistake, but the woman just told me they were very busy and that I would get a refund. I think she was trying to be nice but she just seemed annoyed that I was even bothering her with it.
Most disturbing however, is that I think they intended to re-sell the casserole they pushed me to bring back - which my understanding is in violation of certain food service and health codes. I don’t know for sure, but why call Me twice to make sure I was definitely bringing it back? Just really weird and completely uncharacteristic of my prior experiences.
I really love the owner, and had always had an amazing experience before this. Just sad...
Read moreI made my first trip a couple weeks ago after stumbling upon the shop while searching Google for donuts near me.
I went early on a Sunday as I'd read that the donuts sell out pretty quickly. I'm apparently only able to wake up early on the weekend for food. Easy to find, the shop is simply decorated but emanates this warm and cozy feeling. Everyone working there is friendly (like strike up a conversation friendly), helpful, and generally upbeat. You can tell they are enjoying what they're doing.
The donuts are on point. Delectable flavor combinations with a lovely texture (it's a real donut!) are heavenly. Locally sourced ingredients really stand out in each baked delight. They even hold up nicely as leftovers! We purchased a dozen (1 of every flavor, please!) and cut them in half to share with my neighbors, coworkers, best friend... you get the idea. They kept well in an airtight container for 4 days after.
While every single donut flavor was absolutely mmmmm-inducing, there is one particular flavor I have to give a shout-out to: Mojito. I know, I know, some folks are cringing. I love real Mojitos so I definitely wanted to take a chance trying this one. You know that lovely pound cake your grandma makes with the thin lemony powdered sugar icing? Imagine that icing, but sweet and tart lime, with bits of fresh mint that dance on your tongue... covering a donut. drool It's a good thing I only had one of that flavor.
All in all - it's a great place for great donuts! We will be...
Read moreI'm a donut lover. I'm always looking for great donut places and having recently moved to Charlotte I've been on the hunt. I'm surprised to find very few local places (not your big chain stores). So I've been wanting to try this place and had a chance today. With this being my first time in the store my gaze went immediately to the donuts and I was going to order 4. The lady said I could get two more and get more of a savings with a half dozen. I asked how much and she said $16.50!! I about had a heart attack. Then I noticed the price, $3.75 for a donut! You've got to be kidding me! For nearly $4 the donut needs to be absolutely amazing or the size of my head. These donuts were neither. I had to try it since I was there though. So the donut itself was nothing spectacular. It is slightly larger then average and is a bit denser and cooked throughout (not doughy if you like that kind). The glaze on my donut seemed like it had mostly drained off so it was mostly dough with little sweetness. This place was a huge let down. Seriously I don't understand why people rave about this place. Maybe it is because of the lack of "non-chain" donut places in the area and so they haven't tried real donut shops with reasonable prices. If you're thinking of going there don't waste your money. The best donut I've had so far was at a Shell station...
