My gang and I have an inside joke on our last experience here. Long story short, we pulled up to an obviously closed business. Two children greeted us from the porch. We asked if they're closed today, one replied yes, the other no. We asked if they're closed on the weekend and one replied "No, just on Saturday and Sunday". LOL!? So cute. Unfortunately we had to eat elsewhere which wasn't great. Fast forward about two years and we found ourselves here on a Friday and they were open!
MENU: Chicken, pork, ribs, fish, pastas, tacos.
FOOD: BBQ Chicken Having tried their delicious shrimp pasta on my first visit, this was next on my list. It's a huge portion! The boneless skinless thighs were marinated in a mild savory sauce with just a hint of sweetness and perfectly barbecued. Accompaniments are two scoops of rice and a tasty macaroni salad. It wasn't as bold as I was expecting but was still good. Recommended.
Shrimp Pasta If there's pasta, I HAVE to try it. Damn this was good! The spaghetti was cooked a little more than I'd like, but it had tons of flavor from the 5 pieces of shrimp, cabbage, broccoli and carrots that were sautéed in butter and garlic, and topped with fresh parmesan. Good job guys!
Kalua Pork My friend's dish. This was an odd recipe that he nor any local would expect. While the main stars are pork and cabbage, the flavoring was barbecue sauce. Sweet barbecue sauce. Soaked into the pork. Sorry, but that is not the traditional fare locals are used to (normally it's just salt). I took a bite and cringed as I cannot stand sweet entrees. He had a few bites and took the rest home.
SERVICE: Food delivery was quick. Counter service was semi-friendly.
TIP: Go early as they were out of their pasta dishes and BBQ pork ribs when we arrived at around noon.
OVERALL: Good barbecue and pasta, pass on the kalua pork unless...
Read moreThis could be my "last meal" and I would be just fine with that. I want to keep Braddah Hutts a secret 🤫, but that feels selfish because of how good it is. Get here early, because they do sell out of food and close the parking lot at 2:30pm sharp.
10/10 - BBQ pork ribs plate. Tender, nice char, 6 ribs, rice, Mac salad for $20 is an absolute steal here in Hana.
9/10 - BBQ chicken plate. Excellent flavor, char, saucy, good portions.
8/10 - BBQ pork plate. This was my least favorite, but still great flavor.
10/10 - Mahi mahi plate. Super tender fish, local catch. Finished on the grill for a little char. The sauce and veggies with it are amazing too. $23 for this in Hana is a steal.
10/10 - Butter noodles with shrimp. The shrimp is cooked to perfection and the noodles with the creamy butter sauce and veggies was amazing. The portions on this dish are massive.
9/10 - Butter noodles with kalua pork. My son wanted this, but we all thought it was a strange combo. Even Braddah wasn't sure. It was awesome! The pork was so tender and flavorful. My son loved it, but is prefer the shrimp.
Did I mention the Mac salad is 10/10? Creamy, not dry (some Mac salad is kinda dry), small diced carrots,...
Read moreBest Hawaiian bbq I've had (trust me I've had a LOT of island grindz all across the U.S) and some of the best food I've had period. They have the best Mac salad on this planet. If you get the chicken thigh plate, the chicken thigh is bigger than the plate. Seriously, I'm pretty sure they use velociraptor thighs. My wife had the pulled pork and it was also delicious. Their rice is sticky to perfection and their sauce....o my.... their sauce...I can't even explain. If I could give them 6 out of 5 STARS, I would. The ohana that owns the place are extremely friendly and give off that wholesome, chill, island vibe. Before we left I got another velociraptor plate to-go and an entire box full of the Mac salad... no really, an entire box of it. Even if you aren't doing the Road to Hana; even if you're on the other side of the island, even if you live here, even if you've never eaten from a food truck before, you have to try this place...
