Arrived at 3pm. It was mostly dead, maybe 2-3 other tables with 1-2 people at them each. When I walked in I was greeting with "how can I help you" and then suprise of "Oh! You want to sit down? OK one sec" which was a bit odd. But it was fine. Got taken to a booth, server came and immediately took my order for food and drink (I looked at the menu ahead of time as I was on my lunch break). I ordered the smoked brisket, mac n cheese, and garlic mashed potatoes.
Over the course of 45mins I waited, the server was very nice and kept checking on me and saying she is checking on the food. But for some reason it was taking very long to come out. During this time I was watching and hearing other servers struggling to figure out what food went to what table despite there only being 3 other tables sitting down at the time.
Food came finally and I ate. Very small portions served on a larger plate making it look even smaller. Brisket was barely warm if at all. Side dishes served in plastic cups and were unevenly warmed (hot in areas, just warm in others) similar to how a microwave without a good turntable heats which was strange.
My review on the taste:
Brisket: Not amazing but not bad. Probably better if it was hot. Just had a basic flavor profile of corned beef and was drizzled heavily in BBQ sauce. The toast it was served on top of was nearly dripping with butter when you go to move it or eat it. But overall it was ok.
Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Flavor was actually really good. The plastic dish and uneven heating didn't help it though.
Mac N Cheese: Flavor was ok. I could tell it was trying but it wasn't really unique or powerful enough. Texture was.. grainy? Rather than creamy but I know that's a style I've seen before for Mac N Cheese.
Overall: Sub par experience. My meal cost 17.95 before taxes and tip. Very small portions and the small portions thay were served didn't live up to the price either.
Attached photo of food for reference. On a smaller plate it would've presented better and felt like more food, but either way for the price it wasn't really worth it in my opinion (but if it was made better, it...
Read moreWas recommended by a co-worker to eat there. Drove 50 miles from Michigan. Arrived at 3 pm on Sunday, Easter. Didn't know that they were only offering a buffet at $22.95 per person. Host seated us and never said that they were having issues with the buffet being almost completely out of food. Carving station had old dried out turkey, ham, and I think prime rib. Asked the server if we could order from the menu. She told me no, they were only doing the buffet til 6 pm. Waited over 30 minutes for the buffet to be replenished some. Spoke to the manager and she said that they were behind. Was told new meats we're coming out. Never did replenish meats at the carving station and never brought out more ribs. Manager did bring me 3 bones of ribs and said the chef was cooking more. Waited another 30 minutes, no ribs. Was chargered full price for the buffet. Over heard the back house staff state that they were out of food for the buffet. 10 minutes before I left they were seating people and letting them order from the menu. Will probably not make the drive again. Shame because co-worker said that the food was really good.
Update: I was sitting directly across from the buffet. Heard many customers stating their disappointment in the fact that the buffet being empty. Heard one woman state that the buffet line was dirty, that the staff was not cleaning up. One gentleman came up 3 times and spoke with the lady manager, once to ask if more food was being brought out, second time was to ask if more food was being brought out, third time to tell her that the warmer underneath the fried chicken was out and the chicken was cold. There were many burners out at that time. Will say that kitchen staff did come out and replaced or relit them after the customer complained.
I will only make a review like this if it is warranted and this time it is and was.
Just a little about myself and the fact that I know what I'm talking about. I am retired Air Force of 29+ yrs. I used to manage and run a military dining facility. I know how to feed volumes of people. I am also ServSafe certified. So I know that my complaint, poor...
Read moreI belong to a Toledo men's coffee group. We all agreed to go to Firepit Grill on Airport Hwy Tuesday 8/22/2017. They positioned us on the patio, which was very nice that they made one large table. However the waiter that we were given was not a regular waiter. His normal duties were in the kitchen, and it was his first experience waiting tables....(i felt bad for him). Needless to say, no silverware was brought to our tables, so we took some from the tables on the inside of the restaurant. No menus were given to us so one of the guys grabbed 6 menus from the bar area. After waiting 30 minutes to order, finally orders were placed. After about 45 minutes the food started coming out....not once were we asked if our drinks needed to be refilled until guys started asking individually for refills. The whole table had empty glasses...When the food arrived my food was cold, mediocre in taste, but i didn't want to wreck the waiters evening, as it was not his fault to be placed over such a large group. In my opinion, the management should be reprimanded, if not fired....Our first impression of the place was definitely the worst...we will not be back...Not once did any of the other waiters come to his rescue, or ours. They just looked, smiled, nodded, and then looked the other way.....i give my waiter a 5 star for effort as he was very sweet, kind, and professional although improperly trained. The management i give 1 on a scale of 1-5 as they made table for us although never seeming to care what our first impression may be, and the other waiters i give a zero for working as a team and helping this poor man out. The food is...
