Unfortunately, the food here was not good. I was suprised since there are so many good reviews and I'm not sure if it's perhaps because it's one of the few vegan restaurants around, but as someone who has traveled the world eating vegan food, this actually ranks near the bottom of my list. On top of that, they're charging New York prices for terrible food. I don't mind paying high prices for vegan food, but this felt like a slap in the face and it took them more than an hour to get our food ready even though we were the only people eating there. I don't understand how a Puerto Rican restaurant can have so little seasoning. My Puerto Rican grandparents especially hated it because no tenía nada de sazón. My grandparents don't believe in waste and they were treating us so we ate the food, but if they hadn't been there, I would have definitely left the majority of it. I hate taking non vegans to vegan restaurants that disappoint because it makes them not want to try it again in the future. We ordered the mac and cheese balls which may have been the best tasting thing we ordered, but even that needed more flavor. The risotto was not a risotto at all, it basically tasted like wet rice according to my husband and it looked like it was rice served on top of liquid. The pizza, don't even get me started. We were told it would take a while which made me think they would be preparing dough of some sort but it was mushy vegetables on top of some sort of pita bread and was nothing like a pizza at all. The eggplant tacos needed more seasoning. The pad thai was horrendous. An insult to pad thai! The noodles were super over cooked and soggy and it had a taste of just soy sauce. I couldn't believe that they did not do a single dish right. As a new Yorker, I eat these dishes in vegan forms all the time and I just don't understand how they could be so off. If they don't know how to cook food that isn't from here, they shouldn't be attempting it or should go and actually travel and study how to make these dishes correctly. Or, if they are putting a Puerto Rican twist, I would expect explosive flavor, but there is none. I am just so disappointed for the fact that I was excited to have somewhere to eat near my grandparents, but would never...

Read moreI have to share this experience because we all love food but this was absolutely amazing. We made a quick stop at Chef Karla Ortiz, bo.ka.do Scratch Kitchen, a vegan restaurant, located in the Plaza de Mercado in Mayaguez, PR and was pleasantly surprised. The appetizers were excellent—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. They really set the tone for what seems to be a great menu. While we only had time for appetizers this time, I’ll definitely be returning to try the dinner plates real soon. I also had the opportunity to chat with Karla and her staff. What a joy! I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a plant base option. P.S. The presentation & food was so great that I forgot to take pictures of the savory coffee, Samosas, Bolitas de arroz Jazmine & Alitas de Coliflor. Needless to say we left nothing on our plates as you can see in the photos I managed to take. You will NOT be...
