This was the first time of what will definitely be many more culinary experiences at Mamaya. And I mean culinary experience as opposed to "visit". The executive chef at Mamaya has done an excellent job of creating great tasting, fresh, and refined dishes. This is perhaps the best restaurant in Mayaguez.
Because we didn't have reservations we were offered a seat at the bar. Because of the late hour, we decided to embrace the Spanish vibe and went tapas style.
We tried the Durazno con Burrata (Grilled Peaches accompanied with prosciutto, burrata, and a balsamic reduction. This was my wife's favorite bite of the evening.
We also tried the Almojabanas en Jalea de Tomate. The only thing I can say is "dude!"
I had to try the lechon appetizer. These were montaditos de lechon made with almost waffer thin tostones de pana. The pickled red onions made this bite unreal. Excellent!
My favorite dish was the Tuna bao buns. Freshly caught tuna seasoned with sesame, accompanied by pickled cucumbers and red onions. There was a hint of spicy aioli mayo. You must try this.
For dessert we tried the Crema with fresh berries. Excellent as well.
I highly recommend this restaurant. I will update this review with entree information. No doubt they will be...
Read moreExcellent experience! Visited Mamaya Restaurant with my husband last week on a friend's recommendation. Good location next to Mayaguez Plaza Hotel and a block from the main square and cathedral. There's parking along the sidestreets and across the street.
Since our arrival, the hostess and servers were very friendly. Service was excellent. Restaurant is cozy and well decorated. We loved the cocktails, good presentation. Food is high quality and has great taste. Main menu is a little bit limited, but I was told that they changed menu items frequently. My husband ordered the black risotto with octopus and shrimp and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the cheese and corn agnolotti (ravioli) with shrimp and it was excellent. Appetizers were very good as well. We highly recommend Mamaya Restaurant and will be...
Read moreWonderful dinner establishment, classic upscale for the old buildings in downtown Mayaguez. Within walking distance of our Hotel near the main Plaza. One of the very few places open past 8:00p.m. We felt very safe walking at night, street signs are sometimes non existent, thanks to Google Maps anyone can navigate new places 😂. Excellent service, great bartender and very tasty food. Menu was limited as the main entrees were unique( had to ask lots of questions to understand the meal descriptions😂). The bartender made an extraordinary Brandy Old Fashion, beer selection in P.R. is very limited but oh well. We were there after closing and the employees were in no rush...
